Iink: A connection between one area and another. A primary
feature of interactive products is the ability of users to explore linked
materials.
pixel: The smallest lighted segment on a computer monitors
screen; the smallest segment of color in a digital image file.
platform: A set of hardware components, operating system, and
delivery media that provides specific functions and capabilities for the
production or playback of digital programming.
resolution: The granularity of a display or image typically
indicated by dots per inch (dpi). The greater the dpi, and correspondingly
smaller the individual dots, the greater the detail.
search engine: A database that allows internet users to find
pertinent websites by entering specific subject terms. They are indexed by a
variety of different methods, depending on the particular engine.
server: An Internet computer established by ISPs to respond
to information requests from other computers on the network.
site: All the Web pages that branch from a particular home
page.
URL (Uniform Resource Locator): An address for a file or
location on the Internet.
World Wide Web (WWW): The part of the Internet made up of
the collective websites that are often linked to various other sites to
create a web of information. The Web is different from email
and newsgroups.
XML (eXtensible Markup Language): A metalanguage written
in SGML that allows one to design a markup language; allows for the easy
interchange of documents on the World Wide Web.
