Bananas, jalapeño and anaheim chili peppers

Bananas, jalapeño and anaheim chili peppers

The heat of our Gulf Coast Summer is upon us. The humidity and bugs are thick as.. hahahaha.. Heres a few pics of our bananas and chilies in the garden. We had a bit of cloud cover, so I was able to weed a whole bunch in this area and bring in some mulch. I do not like weeds. :(

With no tomatoes to consume, the hornworms are now eating up our pepper plants. With an average heat index hitting 110, I can only do so much in the early morning before I am zapped. My Cayenne Buist’s Yellow plant was ready to explode the other day, with at least 30 flowers. This morning, 2 of the worms had feasted on the top growth. If I had slept in, they would have finished it off.

Baldwin EMC

Baldwin EMC

Our Baldwin EMC Linemen bounced over the other day to trim the east-side of the farm, and they brought in some big equipment to get it done. The tree line has moved past the power lines. The last time they were here in full force, was the day after Katrina hit us. Diane and I were visiting from Cali, so we watched as pine tree after pine tree snapped and fell on our power lines. Out here the only line coming in is power. OK, we also have a phone line, but you can live with out that. :) Everything here (our well pump for example) runs on electricity.

I want one of these!

I want one of these!

So for the past few days they have been cutting the tree line back, up to 20 feet in some places. I will try and post a few pics of the path they chewed up, as soon as I get a chance. Looks like I have this winter’s fire wood in a manageable size.

Jimmy Buffett’s Gulf Shores Show

July 12th, 2010

What a wild and crazy ride the last month has been. I turn around and see I have a lot to post here. I plan on back posting a few garden thoughts in the next day or so. We can pretend that I was faithfully posting every week. :)

The ride ended with Diane and myself enjoying the Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band’s Gulf Shores show, last Sunday, with our friends. Thank You Jimmy for a most wonderful day. The last few weeks have been a bit hard on us, our friends and clients. This escape recharged us.
