Toms’s site is looking good..

Very busy (when it rains, it floods) at the moment...

Hey Terry..

Dr. Larry Singer: Tue Jul 5, 05 at 09:31:33 PM (EDT) - Vida archive

Tiki- Have you ever checked out Terry's brother's Vida archive? It's pretty extennsive, and i'm sure there's a few gems you'd like.

Tiki: Fri Jul 1, 05 at 12:25:53 AM (EDT) - In 3 hours... give or take...

The clock starts ticking...

A year from today (Give or take), I will be living in Alabama.

The year will go fast. Prolly why I am selling everything I can on eBay. Nope, not going to miss California, the place sucks. Just my 2 cents here. (insert a zillion thoughts here).

Green Acres is the place to be... First thing I am going to do is build me a 8' half pipe. Good to see skate boarding culture is back. LOL, I sold one of my Sims "pure juice" comps sets for $150.00 - and than was able to pick up a mint set 500 ACS Trucks for only $53.. My first plan was to use the base plates and hardware to rebuild my "Bennett Pros". Innsane, looking for ACS base plates once again.

My Tomatoes are rocking...

Tiki: Sat Jun 25, 05 at 10:03:30 PM (EDT) - Hey Thomas!!!!

Yes it has been a very busy week... eBay...

The Updated List - 6/25/05

But I am starting to dig through my 10 year old taper lists to see if there might be more that I can get, that is if I can find these folks after all of these years.

At first I was a bit scared that the tapes may not have held up, after all of these years... Thank goodness I used Maxells...

My np: for the last few:

God and the State - Impact

Swans - Love Will Tear Us Apart (RED 12" EP)

  Gira and Jarboe

Kate Bush - "The Kick Inside" - The Man with the Child in his eyes

Tiki: Thu Jun 23, 05 at 08:32:19 PM (EDT) - Dr. Larry

Here is the list so far...

The List!

Nac = Nakamichi

LOL, I ment Nak

Dr. Larry Singer: Thu Jun 23, 05 at 08:10:35 PM (EDT) - Music Halls

I've got 2. Is that more than you??? :)

I'm sending them to Nicole. They're already digitized.

Hey...what's a "Nac"? I want one...tho i'd settle for a Nac Nini.

I'd love to hear your Music Hall collection when you're done.

Thomas Moore: Wed Jun 22, 05 at 11:12:35 PM (EDT) - akaGeorge in the pool?

Let me know when you're planning to visit Peoria. Maybe Flying Blind will be playing nearby. Peoria is right next to Glendale.

We're getting estimates for installing a pool in our back yard, so you can plan to take a dip with us, too! High temp was 107 today, but the air is so dry that it feels like low 90's with humidity.

However, you should plan to visit during the Winter. It will be cooler here then, but much warmer than NY!

A friend gave me a copy of his music library, about 40 Gb of MP3s. I figure that's about 5,000 tunes. I should save my LPs in that format, as well as in audio CD format for listening on the big system.

Do we ever hear from RTE in this room anymore?

I wonder when Walter Trout will be playing in Phoenix...

Tiki: Mon Jun 20, 05 at 11:25:50 PM (EDT) - Hey Dr. Larry

Very strange that you brought this up (old Music Halls tapes). To make a long story short... I just spent the last month making a 9600 / G3 500 into the most rad capture machine I have ever built. Bought me a new Seagate Cheeter Ultra SCSI 73 gig HD (6th or 7 generation - it smokes), brand spanking new ultra SCSI internal ribbon, jacked the RAM to god head, polished up my ignitor pci card, the best external RCA patch cables I could afford, cleaned my Nac, etc.. A thing of beauty. It will capture at DVD standards and beyond. Been doing a bit of video capturing and edit work the last few weeks... Smoking.

Our first plan was to get OUR (Linda, me and a few others) vast collection of the minutemen live shows onto CDs, than the Meat Puppets, than maybe the ton of other SST that we have... Anywho I dropped an e to Nicole on her list serve. If anyone has more than me, than they have more than me. Fat chance... The good thing is I brought them all to my office with about 80% of my tapes. Wish I had put a list together way back when...

Dr. Larry Singer: Mon Jun 20, 05 at 12:41:32 PM (EDT) - nicole's Podcast

Check it out! Nicole's gonna be giving us the old Music Halls in pod-digestable form. If anyone has any..she wants 'em. http://www.radioornot.blogspot.com/

akageorge: Thu Jun 16, 05 at 02:49:12 AM (EDT) - Thomas de Glendale

Wow -- that's some move! Congratulations on your retirement (if you can make it stick). Are you going to introduce Walter Trout to your local blues joint?

My niece lives in Peoria, a little west of you. Who knows? Maybe I'll get out there one of these days. (She has a pool; give her a call when it hits 110!)

We ran a wire story from the OC Register in our paper today about OLD surfers. The senior circuit. Who's featured? Rick Fignetti, all of 48 years ancient. Mike Lamm, 46. Seems to me there was a story a few months ago about surfer dudes and chicks in their 60s and 70s ... why are these youngsters featured now? (I am, apparently, now old enough to be a fogey.)

Judi, Tiki, Poogie: Y'all are such geeks. I love that in you.

Judi's son: Congratulations -- you sure make your mom proud.

Poogie: Mon Jun 13, 05 at 10:20:10 PM (EDT) - Glad it worked!

You can play around with the "Ken Burns effect." Slow them down. Pan from different angles or reverse the pan. Add different transitions. Sync the photos to the music (snap to the play heads). The possibilities are endless!

I happened upon iMovie when some friends wanted me to dump some raw video from a relative's wedding to DVD. It needed cleaned up, so I put it into iMovie. Authored the DVD in iDVD. Ended up as a major production. Sound track. The whole shebang. Blew them all away. The parents of the groom were crying by the end! Now I have people lined up, wanting me to do their home movies.

If you want to get more into these programs, as well as learn all the tricks of iPhoto and iTunes, I highly recommend the book, "The Macintosh iLife '05," by Jim Heid. Very easy to use and comes with a DVD with video instruction.

Judi: Mon Jun 13, 05 at 03:53:07 PM (EDT) - that worked!

placing the slides in iMovie and saving as Quicktime worked just fine and others can view it via the web. Problem solved, now to go take some decent photos worthy of a movie and to experiment with some of the special effects. The movie I made this time was all teddy bears and the music was teddy Bears Picnic. The link is the same as below but change the movie name to teddybears.mov
and no those are NOT my teddy bears...

Judi: Mon Jun 13, 05 at 01:22:07 PM (EDT) - thanks!

I only opened iMovie once to see what it does, I never thought to put my flower photos in that and add the music and save in that format. I knew there was a way around the problem I was experiencing! iMovie here I come and then convert to Quicktime and I'm a happy camper. I need to be more of an expert for the wedding movie so this will be good practice. Thank you Poogie!

Poogie: Mon Jun 13, 05 at 12:50:18 PM (EDT) - slide show

Make your slide show in iMovie. I just edited a wedding video in it, complete with a slide show and music. Turned out great, and no problems with my iTunes selections. Plus, iMovie has the cool "Ken Burns effect" for the photos.

After your done, you can convert it to Quicktime with freeware software. Just a thought. . .

Judi: Mon Jun 13, 05 at 09:25:10 AM (EDT) - movie

Tiki, I went to iPhoto, put the images I had of flowers or gardens in some random order, clicked on "slideshow" added in my garden song, played it in iPhoto with the music, saved it as Quicktime movie right from the iPhoto options list and uploaded that file to my directory. I could view it just fine but others can only see the images and get the message they do not have permission to hear that iTunes song and need to purchase it to listen to it. I only own the free versions of Quicktime and other software that comes with my computer. Quick time 7.0.1 it says. This is the link http://home.gwi.net/~macintosh/gardensong.mov I was jsut playing around to see how to do it and if I figure it out I'll make better slide shows with really good images and based on themes. I'm practicing so I'll know this stuff for the big wedding in September!

Tiki: Sun Jun 12, 05 at 09:42:36 PM (EDT) - Judi

How did you save this QT movie? Is it a self-contained movie.. as in flat? Can you send me the URL? BTW, use webmaster@ not info... As soon as i can, I will e you about those badges...

I really have not messed around with itunes MP3's... But I am going to guess that there is a work around by saving it as another file to strip the "permissions". Do you own QT Pro?

Poogie, Dr. Larry, are you out there?

Thomas Moore: Sun Jun 12, 05 at 12:20:37 AM (EDT) - Hi from Aridzona!

Made my move. Took 2 months to pack up (both Sunshyne and I save things), and another month to buy a house and actually move. The only thing quick was selling our house in Costa Mesa. We had four offers over the first weekend, without even an open house.

Got a bigger, newer house in Glendale (Phoenix suburb), for less than half the selling price of our smaller, older Calif house. We don't have a pool here, but we're planning to put one in before next Summer.

It's been relatively cool here the past week. Highs in the 90s instead of the usual 100s. They say the jet stream has shifted further South, so we get some high clouds. No rain, but the clouds provide some shade and keep the temp down. In the early mornings and late evenings it's comfortable outside, with lows in the 70s. Afternoon highs will be over 100 for the next three months (!), but after that there will be eight months of really nice weather, and even some rain occasionally!

I'm actually liking it here. Everything in my neighborhood is new, including a giant "super" Wal-mart just a mile or so from my house. We're out of the city, but close to the freeway "loop," so everything's easily accessable.

I've found two "indie" formats here on FM. I have them on my car buttons, but I don't know their call letters. I'll report on the local radio scene later, when I learn more about it. One is at 103.9 MHz, the other at 98.7. Sound familiar?

I haven't checked out the local live music scene, except to read the local version of "The O C Weekly," which appears to be in the exact same format. They're looking for an entertainment editor, too, but I'm trying to be retired. I have a friend who moved here from Calif about a year ago. He plays drums in a jazz trio he hooked up with already, on Fridays and Saturdays, but I've yet to get out to see him play. There's a blues/barbecue joint I plan to check out, and tomorrow there's a local all-woman blues band called "Sistah Blues" playing in a local park, for free.

Just got my **new** computer configured for a wireless home network. I designed my dream machine almost a year ago, and all the hardware was improved since then, except the hard drive. Still the fastest is Western Digital's, running at 10K RPM. All the others run at 7,200, except older ones at 3,400.

Also got the latest Intel Pentium 4, which has over 700 pins as opposed to the earlier P4s, which have 478 pins. Also new bus architecture called "PC Express," which speeds up the graphics, and an ATI graphics card (Pro 700) with 256 Kb video RAM.

With 2 Gb DDR-2 memory, this machine is so fast that programs like Adobe Illustrator open instantly! On my old P3 (500 MHz) it would take several seconds. I was past due for an upgrade (6 years!)

Steph! I read your post on Nicole's board about your pending wedding. Congratulations! Have you tied the knot already? I was hoping to be in Calif still when you arrived.

Well, I told you all the good stuff about Arizona, so I should tell you the bad stuff, too. It's hot. I left my sun glasses on the seat of my car at the mall, and when I put them on again they burned my nose!

Traffic is not as congested as O.C., but they drive even faster, if you can imagine that. Hardly anyone uses turn signals, and they seem unaware that anyone else is on the road! There are apparently no lane restrictions for trucks, so you have eighteen-wheelers in the fast lane, and even in the HOV lanes! Lots of cowboys in pick-up trucks, and lotsa motorcycles.

Dr. Larry! I got an email announcing Zoey's Trip being in a new blue mood. I'm sorry I wasn't there to join you. Can we have your review? Best regards to Tea, too!

Judi: Fri Jun 10, 05 at 11:40:58 AM (EDT) - Macintosh question

I am learning how to take photos from iPhoto, make them into a slide show with music and then save as a Quick time movie, upload it to my web page and show it to others. It was really a cinch to do and I can see the quick time slide show with music just fine but others only can see the photos as they don't have "permission" to hear the song. How do I grant permission for a song to be used in my slideshows? It is a song I own from my itunes library.

Dr. Larry Singer: Mon Jun 6, 05 at 01:29:00 PM (EDT) - WWDC

Are yoou all keeping up with the feeds? I'm expectin some damn cool stuff. Windozers will have a chance to experience the beauty of h.264

Tiki: Sat Jun 4, 05 at 11:24:19 PM (EDT) - New Music

Well indie is still rockin... I had this feeling the day I heard the “Jack in the Box” commercial, all was well with their sales department. Entravision seems to be pulling it off. All in all a good station, though I wish it had better reception! And it still needs a few on-air folks from 10am to 12 noon, etc...

The problem is... I am not really hearing anything new or exciting. (yes Steve Jones rocks, the late night shows rock, Passport Approved etc...) Your best show is Watusi Rodeo. JMHO...

Sorry Dicky Barrett, your show does not need your (or whoever’s) political bent.

The sad truth is... the only NEW music (that made me jump up and say WOW) I have heard was Antony and the Johnsons and Seu Jorge via Jones. This is sad... very sad...

The other day, bouncing to my eye doctor (growing old sucks) I turned the radio dial over to KXLU-FM. This station went to heck years ago, but what I heard, blew this 44 year old dudes mind. When I lived in NoHo we had a great signal, moving to Pedro, even with a great antenna, no dice. So I gave up on this little radio station. My loss...

I could not believe what I was hearing. And then, Michale P played "Gwneiddiau Dwfn / Mawrth Oer Ar Y Blaned Neifion" Click here for a sample. by the band Super Furry Animals...

Well I have been tearing it up on eBay catching up with this band... Buying "Mwng". Amazing... I have been out of the loop this long. As we speak, I am setting up my very old 7600 (will be a G3 in a shake) to be my new radio, Sorry Indie, back to KXLU....

Tiki: Sat Jun 4, 05 at 10:23:39 PM (EDT) - Yowzer!!!

Outstanding Judi

Many good wishes for the happy couple. May their life together be blessed and filled with joy!

Judi: Thu Jun 2, 05 at 01:48:42 PM (EDT) - do I hear wedding bells?

I think I do! My oldest son just got engaged last week. We are on cloud 9 now and can't wait for the tastefully small wedding to take place this September in Maine. Plans are still being made but I am taking my role as Mother of the Groom seriously...... and staying out of the way.
The month of May was totally rainy and cold with not one good weekend but June brought us the sun so I'm back outside running, walking and gardening.
Younger son bought several acres of land and is starting to build his home.
Elderly relatives are still hanging in there, keeping us busy taking them for rides and visiting daily.
Husband has one final year of teaching and then retirement!
New computers still running like a charm, still waiting for my copy of Panther but no hurry. I can't get over how much I adore that iPod shuffle.

tea (aka Mrs. Dr.): Fri May 27, 05 at 01:08:16 AM (EDT) - Antony and the Johnsons

Dr. Larry & I heard Antony (me, for the first time) early last year at the Wiltern, back-up vocals for Lou Reed. The guy (Antony) literally moved me to tears with his vocals. The show was recorded, and I'm pretty sure the good Dr. would share the CD (his vocals on Candy Says will move you). We got to meet Antony afterwards, quiet sort of fellow. Big following in NY. Then a few months ago he did a freebie at Amoebia Records on Sunset and we went up. Already had his CDs, so just got some posters signed, and pics taken. He wasn't quite as shy that night! His music is haunting. There are a couple tracks you can hear online...http://www.antonyandthejohnsons.com/samples/samples.html Yes, I'm an Antony fan. And Dr. Larry came home & told me Steve Jones played him on the jukebox, so that was way cool.

SRF: Wed May 25, 05 at 04:25:04 PM (EDT) - Tiki

Glad to hear about your meds...
Well maybe I was wrong about Indie's demise after Entravision took over the sales end from Cheap Channel. If so, I am glad I was wrong... Haven't caught Antony (or is it Anthony?) and the Johnsons yet. Re. Indie, the new Arbiton trends for LA were released yesterday. This is the first of two "trends" not a "full book" i.e. 4 seasons... Covers listening periods Feb-March-April ... Indie got their best ratings EVER a 1.0 after they've been getting 0.7s 0.8s etc. Good for them!!

I'm still listening to mostly Internet radio... specifically Radio Paradise and WOXY.com. Ciao

Tiki: Tue May 24, 05 at 10:02:17 PM (EDT) - Antony and the Johnsons

Woa... Today driving to my M.D., listening to Indie, Steve Jones played a tune by these guys... Hope There’s Someone

Knocked me off my feet... What a wonderful song! I plan on bouncing into Tower in a few days to grab this puppy, I am a Bird Now CD. Anyone know anything about these folks?

Good News: My diabetes meds are working swell!!!!

Tiki: Thu May 5, 05 at 09:01:55 PM (EDT) - Judi

Hmmmmm....

buttons from Applefest Boston events

Maybe... What do you have?

These days, I have limited my collecting to Apple II, MOOF, and very early Macintosh (pre 1985) widgets. I prefer stuff that can be displayed... Bought an "Authorized Apple Dealer" framed thingie not to long ago... early 80s with the Apple II logo... Yowzer, looks prety darn good on my wall...

But I am always on the look out for other widgets.

Judi: Thu May 5, 05 at 12:22:54 PM (EDT) - Vintage Apple stuff?

I have lots of that. was wondering what to do with it. What were you looking for? Old machines? Software, manuals, buttons from various MacWorld and Applefest Boston events? Keyboards, mice? Used tshirts? Want to purchase any of that?

Didn't think so...

Tiki: Wed May 4, 05 at 09:51:02 PM (EDT) - Hey steph

Nice page....

Tiki: Wed May 4, 05 at 09:49:22 PM (EDT) - RTE

I thought you were going to give me first dibs on your Apple goodies... I bounced in just in time to see your patch in Apple Vintage and woosh it was gone.... ;)

Tiki: Wed May 4, 05 at 09:31:18 PM (EDT) - No Apple Swag!!!!

No Dog Tags, No T-shirts, No Posters (hmmmm, looks like there were no posters at this years MacWorld). Apple... I hate to say this... You are looking 'CHEAP" here. Reward the faithful! Apple must have screwed up here. Or you folks were short changed. I am starting to see Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 Spotlight Keychains and Tiger 10.4 Dashboard Window Static Clings on eBay....

Dashboard Window Static Cling

Guess I am going to have to mozy on up to one of these Apple Stores and get my copy... I am still waiting for a G5 Dual 3 gig puppy... dum de dum de dum... Not that I can afford one, that is what CCs are for... ;)

Judi: Sat Apr 30, 05 at 08:16:52 PM (EDT) - Tiger

Bought my 2 machines April 6th! NO FAIR! So Close, oh well, my son will get it and send me his copy so I'll be ok.

Poogie: Sat Apr 30, 05 at 04:16:09 PM (EDT) - Tiger Upgrade

According to Apple#146;s web site:

If you purchased a new Mac on or after April 12 that didn’t include Tiger, you can upgrade for just the cost of the media.

Major Tiger frustrations. Won#146;t recognize the Airport card in my TiBook. And now TiVo desktop won#146;t work, rendering HMO useless. Grrrrr!

Judi: Sat Apr 30, 05 at 03:53:38 PM (EDT) - Tiger upgrade

anyone know if I get a free upgrade to Tiger since I just bought 2 computers earlier this month? I bought both mini and the G5. Have had both less than a month.

Poogie: Sat Apr 30, 05 at 02:28:41 AM (EDT) - Tiger is here!

Stood in line at Glendale. Bummed that there was no free swag. What?!?! No shirts? Mouse pads? Posters? But lovin' Tiger. The widgets are a hoot! And it's very zippy. So, Dr. Larry . . . how do you like Tiger?

Dr. Larry Singer: Fri Apr 29, 05 at 07:59:48 PM (EDT) - Waitin' for Tiga

I'm here at Apple Store-South Coast Plaza in line waiting for the latest and greatest from our beloved Cupertino company. The cool thing is they have wi-fi blasting out the door for free. You can go 300 feet more and pay T-Mobile to use their connection at Borders' cafe.

Dr. Larry Singer: Thu Apr 28, 05 at 01:00:20 AM (EDT) - Show Saturday

Dr. Larry Singer: Thu Apr 28, 05 at 12:53:04 AM (EDT) - Wheel O' Misfortune

Yea...you guys didn't miss much. I ROCKED out of the box, and then fell on my face. I picked a vowel that wasn't up there...and one time I got on a roll, and my brother (whom they allowed to spin for me) spun a "bankrupt". I have it digitized and put it on DVD. It's not one of my "prouder" moments.

steph: Sat Apr 23, 05 at 01:30:36 PM (EDT) -

Hi everyone. Thought I'd post and see how everyone is.

AKAgeorge, i'm not used to living in such a small town. It's nice, but a huge adjustment. Everything closes early (plan in advance!), fast food is no longer fast (plan in advance!!), it's at least 10 minutes before you get to a main road (plan in advance!!!), and everyone really does know everybody else! We've actually thought about moving into one of the bigger cities closer to where Chris works. If anyone's interested, you can take a look here or here. The amazing thing to me is the house prices. 3/2 on 1.3 acres $174,000.00 !!! Can you believe it. It's nice to know we'll be able to afford a place of our own.

I'm headed back to California next month. Chris and I are finally going to say our, "I do's" in a luau/hawaiian/beach style setting. It's been fun planning it and getting suggestions from everybody. I couldn't imagine spending an entire year on planning a wedding. How do people do it???

Larry, I wish i'd checked the board earlier. I would have loved to see you on Wheel o' Fortune. So...how'd it go???
Thomas, hope you had a safe move to the new home. Can't wait to read about it.

I guess I should toss in some music...let's see. There's a great radio station out here that is very similar to ksca. They are KGSR. You can listen on-line if you'd like. They seem to play a wide variety of tunes. It's nice having options again and I'll hopefully get tuned into some new music. I'm also looking forward to the new Dave Matthew Band cd. I've been listening to his solo cd a lot these days and Sara Mclachlan's "Afterglow" has been in heavy rotation too. I'm looking forward to getting the new Aimee Mann cd. It's suppossed to be a concept album. I haven't heard too many good things about it yet. Maybe that's just cause people are hearing bits and pieces and not the whole thing. It'll be interesting to hear the final project. I was also able to get a copy of the Fiona Apple cd. Apparently, her label isn't going to be releasing it. They didn't think it was marketable...so much for letting people make up their own minds, but that has been the case for years, hasn't it? I wish more artists would ditch labels all together and just put out their stuff over the internet. That requires their own $$$ and I have trouble seeing them do that too. As always, the listener suffers.

Tiki, I enjoyed your posts on the "old" kroq. Interesting stories indeed. I've started trying to keep track of what got me into music. I actually threw it on to a webpage. It's definitely a work in progress, but it's cool to see it on paper and remember the high's and low's of what I've listened to. I'm almost embarrassed to share it, but will anyway... stephs page I'm looking to add more pictures and other stuff.

Weel, I've rambled enough. Anyone else??? Y'all have a good weekend.
(it just doesn't sound right to me this y'all thing! maybe after a few more years.lol)

Tiki: Fri Apr 8, 05 at 10:15:58 PM (EDT) - More 70s - Early LA Radio Thoughts

Oh my... I killed the KWEST thoughts in the post below.

Anyone remember that great Station? Worth a post 3 times as long as the post below. I remember that they got a hold of the John Anson Ford and for FREE, held concerts every week. But those stories are for another day.

Hmmmm, a few weeks ago I found a few very old KROQ stickers (I am diging into my old stuff to place on eBay) from the early years. Black Text on Orange. One is vinyl, but the earlier one is more or less a cheap silk screen on paper. Yep, they put everything they had ($) into promotion. ;)

Tiki: Wed Apr 6, 05 at 10:57:55 PM (EDT) - KROQ

(((VBS)))

The day they played "Tainted Love" was the down fall of KROQ.. IMHO

These were such great days I have decided to revise this post and add a few extra thoughts!!!!

Growing up in a dust bowl (Newhall / Valencia) the best radio, if any was KHJ and KMET... Oh boy! I am not knocking KMET - They once were great... But after Paraquat Kelly and Space left... Anywho As soon as I received my drivers license, I was out of there. Van Nuys became my home away from home. You would find me around Van Nuys and Victory, most of the time, at the original Moby Disc or Victory Records.

So one day I am hanging at Victory Records talking about the GREAT Federated TV Commercials with Al F. and Mark A. - Fred Rated's (Shadoe Stevens) schtick was that he was this Swedish Guy (w/ a Swedish Babe) and he set about slashing prices, etc for Federated (A GREAT LA Stereo Shop in the 70s. This guy flipping through a bin of used records jumped in and told us that this guys name was Shadoe and he was a DJ at KROQ. We must have missed the boat, what was a KROQ? Anywho we stopped playing records and dialed KROQ up... JMHO.... But the lightbulb went off... The only time besides those first weeks, had my mind been blown by radio was the early 80s KXLU. I was hooked.

With in weeks I was now also hanging out at Greg Shaws Bomp Records in NoHo. I am positive that most of this part of my life story can be found in the old YellowRoom archives, so I will just hit the highlites. A few years later, I would find myself working for wea in the main warehouse. I was already phone bombing KROQ... play this, play this... Now I was a checker and packer and I was one of the folks who packed up the promos for the radio stations. The Ramones were on Sire (part of wea) so I started slipping in notes to KROQ... hahahaha... when I packed their promo freebies. yada yada yada... Well I got to meet most of them... I wish I had been able to meet April, her and Freddy Snakeskin were bar none my faves. I was able to meet Freddy at an early Surf Punks gig...

Fraiser (Too Hip - Yes I still have my "Too Hip" card) was a work of art... LMAO... Cindy Garvey! (you had to have been there). Think Real Don Steele on speed! I was sad to see him bounce to KLOS, but still saw him from time to time. A very nice guy. I barely remember a Friday Night Video show that he hosted on one of the local TV Stations. I wonder what happened to him...

Rodney... I first met him at Bomp... Seemed like a nice guy. Knew more about music than anyone I had ever met. In fact I will say that this guy turned me on to more bands than anyone on the face of our Planet... He prolly did more for Van Halen in the early years than folks have in the later... He gave Punk Rock a voice in LA. For that I respect him.

Sooooo... Adam and his Ants gig at Sunset Tower Records

For some reason Rodney got really into this guy. A whirlwind weekend tour of events is planed. Sometime in the early hours the morning before this gig, a zillion "Black Flag Kills Ants on Contact" fliers are stapled to every possible thing on the strip. As we show up, I was not a big Ant Fan, but my buddy was, mayhem broke out... Tee heee, a whole bunch of mini trucks, etc... peel up to Tower, a ton of skins, punkers bounce out, and start pelting the Ants with eggs. It was funny as hell. Well my buddy was friends (heck it might have been his brother) with the poofter who had a pirate / frilly / clothes store (the stuff Adam wore) on Melrose? (I may be wrong here on the location) and Adam was supposed to show up (stop number 2 on his whirlwind weekend tour) and we bounce in. All of these folks (Rodney included) are screeching. Poor Adam Ant, boo hoo hoo, his feelings, boo hoo hoo...

That night Adam was on Rodney's KROQ show. It was bad enough listening to this idiot whine, but the gaul of Rodney to place blame on Black Flag (a local band) with out proof. I taped the show, but said buddy swiped it, Oh well. Look I could care less if they were in fact they were behind it, the thing was this was LA, and we were going Hard Core, this priss ass music did not belong. I myself had nothing to do with it, too bad. I would later go on and join the SST kids... AFAIK, Rodney stopped showing up at SST gigs and we did not care. Denny's was no longer the hip place to be, we hung out at Aardars. Nice guy like I said, but I have lost interest.

It was amazing what they were able to pull off... Zappa / Läther, the free tics (bring us beer, pizza) and back stage passes are yours stuff... I spent a few times at Los Robles... I will keep that to myself, Thank You Very Much.

I never really talked to Rick. I blamed him for the death of a once great station, and the few times I was around him, well drunk is fun. Strung out is not. Either way I can not say a bad thing about him, as I did not know him. Jed was always a flake, Blaming drugs for his bad thoughts is a cop out... He had the afternoon Primo spot... I will keep what I really feel to myself. Once Great... so it goes...

KROQ once was "IT" but that was a long time ago....

Interesting article about KROQ. Link was posted on Nicole's list by someone who worked at KROQ in the '70s.

I called in my crack staff of computer experts, my son and his girlfriend, and they got all new toys up and running and files transferred from old machine. Now I have another dinosaur to add to my computer museum. I was "spending my inheritance" so to speak. My folks had to cash in a life insurance policy that was to go to me on their passing but for them to stay in this assisted living place and not have to pay rent any more the policy had to be cashed in. I bought many nice toys with this windfall. Welll actually my parents bought many nice things for me.

Did you see the article about Indie in Wired mag?

akageorge: Mon Apr 4, 05 at 12:59:07 AM (EDT) - Wow, Judi!

That's a lotta cool stuff. Even I, the non-Mac-grrl, say that. If I do move to Mac, though, that Mini is the one that gets me ...

THOMAS: Bummer -- I missed Flying Blind! Darn. Are they as growly and retro as ever?

re: April Fools': NPR almost got me with their maple syrup story. Then it started getting weird, with exploding maple trees and two Vermont farmers with Waayyyyy Downeast accents. And a quote from an expert at the Northeast Central Vermont College's Southwest campus, and references to Native Americans and Puritans. Anybody else hear it? (Hint to the uninitiated: Maple trees don't explode. Except sometimes in the middle of a really cold snap in winter.)

I've been hanging out (online) with Nicole and her fans at her yahoo email group; "world-class rock."

Click here to join (It's free, free, free!)

They post about music and AI a lot. The latter is some kind of tv program that they mostly don't approve of, but keep watching it anyway. Is a lot of what's on tv like that?

Tiki Webmeister; Have you invited them over here? Seem to be a nice bunch, actually.

Note to akageorge: Flying Blind is playing this Saturday night (April 2) at Prego Ristorante, 18420 Von Karman in Irvine (br) (949) 553-1333 for reservations, etc.

Can you make it?

akageorge yet again: Tue Mar 29, 05 at 03:12:50 AM (EST) - NEKKID MUSICIANS!!!

Folk music fans, this is a must-have: The Naked Folk 2005 Calendar. I got mine at the Vance Gilbert show Saturday at Caffe Lena. (Autographed.) It features the likes of Janis Ian, Laura Love, David Massengil, Jack Hardy, Suzanne Vega (and, of course, Vance, with his best friend, Ellis Paul). Not just a bunch of pretty faces and other body parts, this is a fund-raiser for the North American Folk and Dance Alliance. You can find it at www.nakedfolkcalendar.com, as well as at the Web sites of many of the stars. Jane Toohey's photography is artsy and eloquent, and the daily text includes birthdays for some of folk's top folks. Get yours now! (This is not a paid announcement.)

akageorge: Tue Mar 29, 05 at 03:01:11 AM (EST) - steph!

Howdy, then! Austin could be a pretty hoppin' place for music, I hear. I catch those public radio shows once in a while and always enjoy them ... and Austin City Limits, too. And congratulations on living in an even more sparsely populated place than I do! (I count more than three dozen in my "village," or collection of houses 8 miles from town)

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FOLKS: A great young artist named Gregory Douglass is headed your way the third week in April and is willing -- nay, eager, even -- to do house concerts. (Sandy and Don? This would be a great fit for you!) Anyone interested, email him at gregory@gregorydouglass.com (make sure you get the douglaSS, double s) You can check out his music at www.gregorydouglass.com.
