Thomas More: Fri Nov 5, 04 at 02:59:37 PM (EST) - FREE CONCERT! FREE! FREE! FREE!
In case you didn't read my post, below...
FREE CONCERT!!! FREE! FREE! FREE!
Roy Rogers (who taught Bonnie Raitt, among others, to play slide guitar), will perform, along with Norton Buffalo on harmonica, at Muldoon's Pub in Fashion Island (Newport Beach) at 2:00 PM on Saturday 11-06.
Thomas More: Fri Nov 5, 04 at 02:49:25 PM (EST) - Requiem
Sad to hear of the death of Hawk, Dr. Larry's long-time companion and service dog. He'll be missed by many. Also Tiki's kitty, Ms. Kahlua. I don't recall if I met her when I visited the Tiki residence, but since there was a loud party in progress she may have been hiding under the couch.
There will be some appropriate music tomorrow (Sat 11-06), at 2:00 PM at Muldoon's Pub near Fashion Island in Newport Beach. Roy Rogers (the guitarist, not the dead cowboy), aka King of the Slide Guitar, and Norton Buffalo, who plays harmonica, will perform a free concert in the patio at Muldoon's.
The entire program won't be a dirge, of course, but this is the kind of music that was played at funerals, long ago in the deep South. The duo has recently released a CD entitled "Roots of Our Nature."
I plan to attend, and I hope all my fans will too.
akageorge! I wish you were here!
Tiki Webmaster: Wed Nov 3, 04 at 10:21:12 PM (EST) - akageorge
Thank You... Prolly the longest day in my life.
Not one to pull my own posts, but....
I wish I could post a song... but Miss Kaloo was into surf instro and very loud
metallica tunes... ;)
akageorge: Mon Nov 1, 04 at 11:52:57 PM (EST) - Tiki: re: beautiful Miss Kahlua
I saw the original post, then didn't, so wasn't sure what to say. But I do now. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing, such a lovely kitty. She sure lucked out in life with you guys.
My little shadow, Ewok, sends her condolences too, even if she is felinophobic -- she only likes dogs.
Hugs to you and Diane.
Tiki: Sat Oct 30, 04 at 03:40:10 PM (EDT) - SRF
Thanks...
SRF: Fri Oct 29, 04 at 12:11:51 PM (EDT) - Tiki
Hey man, sorry to hear about Miss Kahlua's passing. I am glad to hear she had a long and obviously happy life. We have 3 kitties in my family...the 3rd we got back in June ...She is now about 6 months old. Jeannie (WOSRF) named her .... Kahlua.
All our cats have names of food or drink. Our beloved Raisin passed on in August '01. We had an Abby we named Java who had leukemia and passed on 9 months after we got him. Surviving are Marmalade (the old guy), Bailey, and Kahlua. Yes we love to drink!!
I'm sure Miss Kahlua has already made friends with Raisin and Java :>)
Tiki: Thu Oct 28, 04 at 09:16:19 PM (EDT) - Odds and Ends...
Well, I picked up Miss Kahlúa
yesterday. They put her in this nice little box. I am happy she is back home. Anywho, I pulled the
post about her passing. My kitty was 18 1/2 years old, and prolly the bestest kitty there ever was
She is missed.
Sooooooo, it looks like U2 is THE iPod band. Not that I would have picked them, but no one asked
me... Pretty darn kewl commercial.
But if I may give my 2 cents here... Jet black with a red Click Wheel???? All wrong. I sure hope
Bono did not pick this color scheme. Hello Apple, how about a Purple iPod!
Not saying that Bono has a large ego here. I wonder who approached who. But can you imagine the
mind-set one might get, having your own Special Edition iPod? I would like a Frank Zappa
unit, if you care to know. ;)
Well SC heads up to Wazo Saturday. I am sure we will get an exciting football game. (insert
something about being hit over the head with a hammer here) ND is still weeks away...
(sigh)
I still do not care to know who votes for who. But it is very important to go out and vote
this coming Tuesday. When folks stay home, apathy mind-set, we all lose. Vote.
Tiki: Thu Oct 28, 04 at 08:29:28 PM (EDT) - Yowzer...
Nice to be able to say World Champions Red Sox!
Put on my BoSox Cap for the 5th, the one I bought 15 years ago, but took it off right after. I just wanted to make sure I was not part of the jinx.
Anyone else get a chance to hear the Dan Patrick / Bill Buckner interviw on ESPN radio today? Very interesting... For shame on those who made him out to be a goat...
Wednesday is Red Sox day in Maine: Thu Oct 28, 04 at 07:30:32 PM (EDT) -
actually all of next week will be Red Sox week but Wednesday is the day they have the parade and visit by the team. Boston is expecting 5 million to their party on Saturday, all of Maine has less than 1 million people so I would hope it will be a smaller party here. I plan to attend the Maine event. Sea Dog stadium will be hopping, they are the baby Red Sox team. We are all deleriously happy, waited all too long for this event. Not Just Boston but all of new England claim the Red Sox as the home team thus the term "Red Sox Nation". And now I can get to bed at a decent hour, no more games ending at midnight to watch.
SRF: Thu Oct 28, 04 at 03:06:27 PM (EDT) - Judi
Wow congrats to the World Champion Boston Red Sox. They won in dominating fashion, too!! Now WOSRF and I can go back to rooting for the 2005 Angels!!
Judi: Thu Oct 28, 04 at 08:01:28 AM (EDT) - Success!
I told you the Sox would win this year! You just needed to have faith that it will all work out. Mother Nature arranged for a lunar eclipse at the very moment the Sox won to celebrate the event too.
tea (aka Mrs. Dr.): Thu Oct 21, 04 at 08:20:15 PM (EDT) - Thomas!
As Dorothy said in The Wizard of Oz..."I missed you the most!" I've been busy with school too, I'm making movies, so when I saw you've been designing movie posters I thought, Hey Thomas could design my one sheet! Keep in touch!
tea (aka Mrs. Dr.): Thu Oct 21, 04 at 08:18:01 PM (EDT) - 101.9 (sigh)
We have more 101.9 memorabilia than a family should be entitled to, but then again this family was born BECAUSE of 101.9, it brought us together. I have a super soft spot in my heart for that station. We have t-shirts, water bottles, coffee mugs, fridge magnets, CDs, and even the original artwork of Einstein playing guitar which the station used as its logo "Intelligent Music" Ahhhh yes, a very big soft spot.
SRF: Thu Oct 21, 04 at 01:25:14 PM (EDT) - Red Sox Nation Celebrates
HAHAHA !!!! So the team with the highest payroll in baseball is shutout from winning the World Series for the 4th year in a row!!! I guess Judi was right tho' it sure didn't look like it this past Sunday morning!! np:Pink Floyd-Shine on you crazy diamond on Radio Paradise.com
Tiki: Wed Oct 20, 04 at 09:54:21 PM (EDT) - Ha ha Ha ha
Boston: 8 - New York: 1
Tiki: Wed Oct 20, 04 at 09:52:13 PM (EDT) - Howdy Thomas...
I am bored... prolly need a project...
I know... how about I turn my Mac Plus into a web server....
Don't laugh it has been done... I WANT my Mac Plus to be a web server... LOL, I promise to document it....I start in the morning. Hmmmm, my guess is i will go with system 7.5.1 rev 2... A very good OS.
Thomas More: Tue Oct 19, 04 at 08:27:35 PM (EDT) - who der?
I see Tiki, Least Killifish, SRF, Dr. Larry and Judi. Long-time YR ppl! All we need is Sandy for a quorum. Or would that be quora, in this case?
As an excuse for my absence, from the local music scene as well as these walls, is the load of homework they give you in college nowadays.
I'm taking courses in Photoshop, Illustrator and Quark XPress. We're doing movie posters, DVD covers and package designs, for exercises. Last year I studied graphic design, color and typography.
However, all school and no play makes Tom a dull boy, so I expect to take a break on Oct 30 and catch Trout at Perq's in Huntington Beach. That's right, folks, like old times, and I hope a few YR fellows (& -ettes) will gather to commemorate the occasion.
If I was Dr. Larry and I'd met the love of my life while Walter Trout played at Perq's, I'd be there on Oct 30. It's a great way to spend the night before Halloween, in any case.
Tiki: Tue Oct 19, 04 at 06:50:05 PM (EDT) - More KSCA thoughts...
Amazing!!! The old KSCA mirror site is still up.
Tiki: Tue Oct 19, 04 at 06:31:54 PM (EDT) - Hey... Al Polito
Is this the "Yellow Room?"
Sort of kind of... I still miss KSCA-FM
Al Polito: Tue Oct 19, 04 at 05:49:31 PM (EDT) - OK, this must be it...
In case any of you don't rock, roll and remember, I went by the name, "Least Killifish," while frequenting the yellow room 10 years ago (gasp)...
Here are the lyrics to my new song, "10:19"
10:19 copyright 2004, by Al Polito, Tiberias Brutus Music/BMI
Do you remember? It wasn't so very long ago
It was a cheap date, at home with a bottle of merlot
The radio was playing 101.9
George was singing all about Something, and I was sublime
The music played on, the DJ was feeding us the mood
It was magic. Even the commercials sounded good
The radio was playing, it was 101.9
I thought I heard a Moondance, or Sister Moonshine
At a quarter past 10, our love was about to begin...
CHORUS:
10:19 was our time
10:19 was our time
After our lips locked I opened my eyes
And remembered the time...
It was a tough year - gradually our demons left their mark
We forgot to dance. That radio station, it went dark
But I remember rockin' to 101.9
I remember you and I think about you all the time
Would you look at the date? I think it says Rocktober 19
What do you say, girl? Let's get back in the middle of a dream
We can laugh at our demons, we can laugh at ourselves
Let's pick up some wine and let's pull those CDs off the shelf
Tonight at a quarter past ten, let's give it another spin...
Chorus....
Al Polito: Tue Oct 19, 04 at 05:35:56 PM (EDT) - Is this the "Yellow Room?"
I did some web surfing in search of the Yellow Room. Today is 10/19. A day that calls to mind a very special radio station that used to occupy the 101.9 position on the LA FM Radio dial. If this is the old yellow room, I have a gift...
SRF: Tue Oct 19, 04 at 01:52:44 PM (EDT) - Red Sox can make history
If they even win tonight and then lose Game 7, they will still have made baseball history. No team that ever lost the first 3 games of a best-of-7 ever forced a Game 7. Gotta admire their spunk, not blinking in the face of adversity. Luck helps a little, too. (In last night's game, Tony Clark's 9th inning double would have scored the runner from 1st had it NOT bounced into the RF stands for a ground-rule double so it was runners on 2nd and 3rd)
SRF: Mon Oct 18, 04 at 07:26:32 PM (EDT) - Larry
I recommend for a good laugh the movie "Team America". What a hoot skewering all sides of the political spectrum including the Hollywood elite as well as making fun of Hollywood's Big Action/Adventure Movies with their Maudlin soundtrack. Caveat: Don't see if you are offended by extreme vulgarity. Think barf to the extreme, puppets doing things you'd never see even in an R-rated movie, and of course the requisite language. LOL!
PS-WOSFR and I were debating beforehand to see Team or Huckabees.
SRF: Mon Oct 18, 04 at 07:20:15 PM (EDT) - not looking good for the Red Sox
Pedro just gave up a 3 run double to Jeter in the top of the 6th. Yanks lead 4-2 and Pedro has thrown close to 110 pitches.
Larry Singer: Mon Oct 18, 04 at 06:47:47 PM (EDT) - Brion fans, unite
Hey everyone...I was at Amoeba Sunday to see Jon Brion doing an "I (heart) Huckabees" promo. I shot some video that you can get to via the links on top of this page: Jon Brion, including Jon Brion doing Tom Waits doing Radiohead. Must be seen to be believed!
Oh...the aforementioned movie...a MUST SEE! It is so far left-of-center of mainstream movies!
Larry Singer: Mon Oct 18, 04 at 06:37:03 PM (EDT) - stuff
what happened to that?? Well at least i didn't screw the pooch. You get the picture: archives
Larry Singer: Mon Oct 18, 04 at 06:34:57 PM (EDT) - stuff
judi- Well have fun. Having the ipod has given me a whole new way to rediscover my expansive collection...and discover some new stuff. As for the duplicate album question...it will duplicate them if they hve anything different about their "tags". If one one computer you say the album title is "Greatest Hits" and on the other computer is says "RTE's Greatest Hit"..even though the song titles are the same, as long as ANYTHING is different (album title, name of artist) your ipod will "file" those under their appropriate tags. Tags are important cause they enable you to search by artist, album, song, and genre. You set these tags in itunes. itunes then transfers them to the ipod and files them in threir appropriate slot. This makes it simple to listen to either all of your Flying Blind songs (Artist), a specific song by Flying Blind (songs), Flying Blind's Greatest hits (Albums) or all the songs by Bar Bands (genre). It's fun just putting the iPod on "shuffle" mode for the entire library. The downside is I have many non-music files (books on tape, lectures, etc...) on there and these can get chosen.
TIKI: Hey...everything's going great! I was gonna come on here to tell you Terry's brother has been putting up some Vida stuff. Go here:
Vida page and here:
archives. Enjoy!
Judi: Mon Oct 18, 04 at 11:36:24 AM (EDT) - iPod has arrived
I have it charged and loaded with only a slection of the songs I had in iTunes so I'm starting out slowly with only the very best songs and I'll add more as needed. FUN!
Judi: Sat Oct 16, 04 at 08:50:29 PM (EDT) - Thanks Larry
I can't wait until my iPod arrives and I can have tunes when I do my daily 5 mile walk. Good to know I can take songs off both machines. Thanks for the autosync info. All the songs in iTunes are from my own cd collection, most on the desktop machine but I also went and put a few albums on my laptop so I'd have at least a few songs to listen to when we were at camp and I brought the laptop with me. It would be easy enough for me to also put those same albums on the desktop machine but it was worth asking. Now say I have "Flying Blind's greatists hits" album on both machines and I go to upload the tunes from both machines on the iPod does it put the duplicate album on the iPod again? And about the free songs from iTunes on Tuesdays? They send me a weekly e-mail with the free song listed and I always check it out and about 50% of the time I will download it but if I have no interest in that song at all I don't bother just for the sake of having something free. I also got 5 free songs from the Pepsi bottle cap code promotion they had a while back. I just don't PURCHASE songs there, I didn't want to go down that slippery slope as one song here and another there can add up to a pretty penny and I have no spare pennies at the moment. So I found it best not so even consider getting music there....yet. All hints, hacks and ipod suggestions are welcome, and I ordered the engraved blue ipod mini and a nice protective case.
Tiki: Sat Oct 16, 04 at 08:50:00 PM (EDT) - Hey Larry!!!
I did not see your post...
Whats up?
Tiki: Sat Oct 16, 04 at 08:47:51 PM (EDT) - Hey Judi
Well we just got back from the Big Time College Football Game... of the day... Yowzer! Big thumbs up to the ASU fans... They showed a lot of class, sticking around, and still cheering for their team... The ND fans out there could learn a thing or two from them...
Judi, AFAIK, you can...
Larry Singer: Sat Oct 16, 04 at 12:44:44 PM (EDT) - ipod
Judi-
Yes, you can put songs from both computers on your ipod. I have a Powerbook and Power Mac that I have different songs on, and use my ipod with both. I even take tea's ipod, which is authorized for her PeeCee and transfer songs to it from my computers. I just be sure to click cancel when it asks if i want to authorize her 'pod for my computer. One more thing, even though you didn't ask this, IN THEORY, there's no way to take songs off of your ipod and put them on a machine, but IN PRACTICE, there are ways around that. Oh...one other thing, shut off the auto-sync preference on both machine. Just have it set to manually update. Otherwise, it will sync your itunes library each time you plug in your ipod. Enjoy! Oh...one more one more thing...you'll want to check iTunes Music Store EVERY Tuesday, cause they give you a free download.
Judi: Fri Oct 15, 04 at 11:36:05 AM (EDT) - rain delay
Game will be delayed or rained out tonight, we hall have to wait a little longer.
iPOD question for the Mac gurus. I just ordered an iPod mini that will be delivered soon. My question is can I download songs from either and both of my computers? I had a lot of my cd collection on my desktop machine in iTunes. Then I started adding songs to my laptop iBook iTunes. Will I be able to take some songs from one computer, put them on the iPod and do the same with the desktop machine or do they allow you only one machine? Both iTunes accounts have the same email and password. I do not purchase songs from the internet, only place selected cuts from my own albums. I figured before I start downloading to the iPod from one machine I need to know if I can also take songs off the other machine too.
Thanks.
SRF: Thu Oct 14, 04 at 10:54:44 PM (EDT) - I'm with you Judi
After how the Sox beat my Angels so badly, I want them to beat the Yankees so I wont feel as bad. Game 3 is do or die for Boston...We'll see what happens.
Judi: Thu Oct 14, 04 at 01:55:03 PM (EDT) - SOX
Hi SRF, I'm right here lurking away. The season is not over yet young man, wait till they get back in Boston and see how the tables are turned. It is best of 7 games so we still have a long way to go. There is no curse, have faith!
SRF: Thu Oct 14, 04 at 01:06:43 PM (EDT) - Red Sox look overmatched
Tiki: Tue Oct 12, 04 at 07:43:27 PM (EDT) - Here we go again...
OK BoSoxs... You can do it!!!!
Ahhhhhhh the Curse of the Bambino is striking again!!!!

OK BoSoxs... You can do it!!!!
Tiki: Sat Oct 9, 04 at 09:35:21 PM (EDT) - Woot!
What a day... ESPNs College GameDay came to the Coliseum today.
The alarm clock rang, we showered, stock piled the car, and off we went. Pure bedlam... LOL .. but we were there! At 9 am we went back to the campus... 3 hours later we were inside the Coliseum. What a game... Maybe a bit ugly, but bottom line SC is still Number 1....
