And we miss you too. Stop in when you can, it's good to read you!
akageorge: Thu Jul 3, 03 at 01:57:23 AM (EDT) - not to play favorites
And hello to all you other Rumours. I miss every one of you.
akageorge: Thu Jul 3, 03 at 01:56:20 AM (EDT) - howdy again
I just read about that Albertson's thing on the AP wire. Yikes! I checked all the names to see if any were familiar. Glad you're all OK. JUDI: Oh, but my garden grows beautifully! I have wild mustard, wild asters and all sorts of other -- um, wildflowers. Except that's where I planted tomatoes, chard and squash. So the weeds got away from me a little. ;^) VGRRRL: Omigod. You're in college? I have been away too long. Good to see you.

KD: Tue Jul 1, 03 at 11:38:29 PM (EDT) - shopping
Maybe I oughta go to Stater Bros. tonight ...
Sandy: Mon Jun 30, 03 at 12:31:04 AM (EDT) - Dr. and Mrs. Larry and all
Correct you are, it was the Albertson's at Culver and Irvine Blvd. up in the newer neigborhoods of North Irvine, north of the I-5. The few occasions I stop at Albertson's..... it's the same one Tea and Larry were at. Tiki, 2 families of Rumours live in Irvine. Turns out it was a disgruntled ex-employee who wielded the sword. Yikes.
Thomas More: Mon Jun 30, 03 at 12:10:29 AM (EDT) - tea, you have my sympathy...
I'm glad that sword-weilding maniac was no closer to your neighborhood than four miles!
Thomas More: Mon Jun 30, 03 at 12:07:14 AM (EDT) - Old (pro) speakers never die,
...they just get re-coned. I had my 15-inch woofers re-coned at JBL in '96, so they are good for a few more years. I've examined the 30-yr-old diaphrams in my mid-range drivers, and they show no signs of wear. Just broken in, I guess. After all, the U. S. Navy uses the same horn and driver for foghorns on destroyers!
Actually, they use the optional Titanium diaphram for that application. In concert sound systems, we used the phenolic (fiberglass) diaphragm. More robust, but not as good a response curve as the Aluminum one, which is preferred for studios and stereos.
Isn't it interesting that the same electro-mechanical device has been in use in most recording studios since the late 1960s?
tea (aka Mrs. Dr.): Mon Jun 30, 03 at 12:04:51 AM (EDT) - Wrong again!
Dr. Larry has shown me the error of my ways...Seems it's NOT the Albertson's on our corner, but the one 4 miles up the road. Whew! I feel better having missed the entire ordeal. Night all.
Dr. Larry, tea (aka Mrs. Dr.), Lynlea & Hawk: Sun Jun 29, 03 at 10:23:43 PM (EDT) - NOT shopping at Albertsons!
Thomas called, and alerted me to the news. Dr. Larry & I were in Santa Ana all day scouring flea markets and second hand stores (scored a groovy framed print of a 1961 Warhol "Mexican Flowers" for under $20, which was commissioned by Vogue Magazine). And yes, Sunshine is correct it's a mile up the corner from us, next to where CD Listening Bar used to be (next to Chinet Chinese restaurant). I was telling Thomas, that Albertsons lost me as a customer 2 yeard\s ago, but just last night I was there for the firsttime in that same 2 years. I hope I didn't piss someone off. All accounted for at our house.
Thomas More: Sun Jun 29, 03 at 09:51:52 PM (EDT) - Shop at your own risk!
rdamor@pacbell.net
It's a wicked world out there. You can tell the end is near when our best golfer is black and our best rapper is white, not to mention when it's not safe to shop in Irvine.
WoThomas says the market is on Culver and Alton, near the Chinese Restaurant where we used to go, when there was a used CD store nearby. Now I worry about Dr. and Mrs. Singer. That's their neighborhood.
Audio Nuts Take Note: I've finished transferring my JBL pro speaker components from the 19 cu ft bass reflex enclosures I designed in 1971, to the new 13 cu ft enclosures that I designed, also back in the '70s, when I was employed in that business. I had never built the smaller version before, but they turned out sounding really great.
Which means, that I have this pair of big blue boxes (5 ft x 2-1/2 ft x 2-1/2 ft) FOR SALE! CHEAP! Actually, I'll pay someone to take them away!
Hey, if you have a disco, theater, a large living room, or if you would just like to impress your friends with the size of your... ah, stereo, then send an email to me at the above address.
The boxes will accommodate any 15-inch woofer, mid-range horn or speaker and tweeter. They are tuned at 40 Hz, which means you don't need a sub-woofer with these babies. They roll off below 20 Hz, tho', so you won't break the windows too often.

Oh My... Irvine!!!
AFAIK... No rumers live around there.
Sandy: Sun Jun 29, 03 at 08:34:47 PM (EDT) - Glad I Shop At Ralph's Supermarket
All the Goudies are alive and accounted-for. Hope Larry and Tea are ok. That's too weird - there are several Albertson's markets in town, don't know which one it was.... and I sure don't want to go looking for the crime scene.
Wonder what set him off?
Judi: Sun Jun 29, 03 at 07:24:10 PM (EDT) - shoppers nightmare
IRVINE, California (AP) -- A man wielding a large knife or sword killed two people and injured three others at an Albertson's supermarket Sunday morning before police fatally shot him, authorities said.
Headcount please, all those of you who live in IRVINE.
I hate grocery shopping but if this happened in my town I'd probably starve or learn to grow my own food or shop at farm stands. Creepy stuff, what is wrong with people these days?

Collector: Fri Jun 27, 03 at 12:03:20 AM (EDT) - Serif vs Sans serif
There's an old desktop publishing rule that says to use serif fonts for small print and sans serif for large, something to do with the eye finding it easier to read serif fonts, more visual flow. But I think that's gone by the wayside in our Arial/Helvetica/Verdana dominated world. More importantly though we need new names for those categories. I mean, clearly those names, serif and sans serif, are French words and must be flushed from our language. Perhaps, Freedom fonts and No Freedom fonts?

No need to apologize...
although Id prefer a sans serif font
Very simple... Go into your browsers prefs and state the font that you would like to view web pages with. GP learned yeas ago not to force a font on an end-user. This is the web, not print. 10,000 web pages later... I think we have it down.
would appeal better to the designer in me (Im currently in college working towards my Advertising diploma!).
Kewl... ;) It is a good biz to be in...
If I can be of any help, just let me know... You have taken a tour of my site? A diploma is only a start. In my biz, you need to get your hands dirty. The creative solution process is not found in a text book. ASAP find an intern gig.
Judi: Sun Jun 22, 03 at 03:02:57 PM (EDT) - he likes my garden!
Oh Tiki you sweet thing. You like my garden, a sorry excuse for a good plot of land if I ever saw one. Since most of the east coast had winter until about May 1st and then rain and rain and more rain for weeks more, still off and on again rain, the garden is not doing so good this year. I'll post some photos eventually. Then you can take back those words about enjoying reading about MY garden.
Nice to see some of the old folks back here, wish as usual they would actually post something instead of being eternal lurkers.
The baby loons have hatched, see link below. I watched and was facinated and now still photos of the event are at that site and maybe some video soon.
I won't bore you with my frustrations over my parents, and the fact that I basically have to live with mom until I can get her into either assisted living or a nursing home and soon! Dad is making no progress in getting home from his rehab at the nursing home as he just has no strength to even get out of bed by himself anymore. Old age sucks, when I get that old I'm going to carbon monoxide myself to eternal sleep.... accidentally of course..

Hey Thomas, you're welcome, but as in every line of business the sample is free and then you must pay for the whole product ;-) Surely you wouldn't mind paying my bills for a few more photos?
You are mostly right about the Latin - it's actually "VERY beautiful goddess" ("pulcher" would be beautiful, the added "rima" adds the very...think Italian: you have your spaghetti and you have your spaghettini, which is like spaghetti but smaller. Get it? It's all about the suffixes).
Tiki: I apologise, I didn't mean to offend =) I had skimmed over the previous posts and saw someone say something about it not being a replacement for the YR, so it's my fault for not making the connection. I do like the white walls and blue text, although I'd prefer a sans serif font...would appeal better to the designer in me (I'm currently in college working towards my Advertising diploma!).

OK... Here is the deal...
This room was never ever ment to replace the old YellowRoom. The old YR (versions 1 and 2) prolly never really replaced KSCA's room
I put this room up (with Diane's permission) only because I missed Sandy and Judi posting about their gardens, Thomas' wild adventures, yadda yadda yadda... That is all... Sorry I do not miss the old YR... But I do like what I see here. Just my 2 cents....

Collector; I meant to apologize for RTE's absense. He does pop in from time to time, but he's working full time these days as a "Power Seller" on eBay. He can find those obscure CDs you're looking for.
However, you can see him perform, almost live, every Thursday night at The Bluewater Grill in Costa Mesa (near South Coast Plaza), from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
Happy hour lasts 'til 6:30, and they serve the best fish tacos, for $1 apeice! Come early and eat two or three!
Thomas More: Thu Jun 19, 03 at 07:05:05 PM (EDT) - Hi Collector!
I didn't see anything "snooty" about your previous post. And I was glad to see that you're still a fan of the Feats. I have their "Haven't Had Enough Fun" CD, and it is quite good. Although Lowell was the songwriter and creative power of the group, there was an abundance of talent in the band, and they are to be commended for stepping up to the task of carrying on without the founder.
Thomas More: Thu Jun 19, 03 at 06:58:00 PM (EDT) - Vgrrrrl!!!!
So nice to see your post on these alabaster walls! And thanks for your nude photos. They were very revealing.
If I remember the Latin correctly, your email addy translates into "Beautiful Goddess." Is that you? I tried to access your Web page, but they wanted a credit card number. Nice pop ups, tho'

my folks are pure "Loony" now anyway, totally over the edge, ready for the "home". Oh that's right, they already ARE IN the home. Ok then I'm ready for the loony bin. But it is fun to watch that loon on the nest. Remarkable patience. Wish I had some.

Ok, so it's 7 a.m. and when I first began reading Judi's post I thought she was talking about HER parents! I'm twisted this early. I shouldn't read anything deeper than Dilbert until 10, and that's only to find out what's going to happen in my office! Ok, I can see (not clearly, mind you) it's time to start the coffee. Judi thanks for the giggle.

REFUND! and stranger still, notice the source of the article I found at CNN says Portland MAINE!
Judge: Millions of CD buyers owed money
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- A judge has approved a settlement agreement in a music antitrust lawsuit that will result in more than 3.5 million consumers receiving nearly $13 each.
Judge D. Brock Hornby issued a 51-page ruling Friday in the case that began in 1996 when attorneys general across the country began investigating whether distributors and retailers had conspired to inflate CD prices.
"This settlement will put cash in the hands of millions of consumers and music CDs in libraries and schools throughout the country, and will ensure that the challenged distributor/retailer practices will not resume," Hornby wrote.
Details still to be decided
The ruling, however, does not stipulate exactly how much consumers will receive or when the checks will be distributed. More than 3.5 million consumers filed claims, now estimated at $12.63 each.
Hornby asked lawyers to present him with a report by the end of the month on how much it will cost to distribute the checks and how much each check will be.
He also deferred ruling on a plan on how millions of CDs will be distributed to the schools and libraries.
The lawsuit, signed by the attorneys general of 43 states and territories and consolidated in Portland in October 2000, accused major record labels and large music retailers facing competition from discounters like Target and Wal-Mart of conspiring to set minimum music prices.
The defendants -- Sony Music Entertainment, EMI Music Distribution, Warner-Elektra-Atlantic Corp., Universal Music Group and Bertelsmann Music Group, and retailers Tower Records, Musicland Stores and Transworld Entertainment -- deny any wrongdoing. Attorneys representing the companies declined to testify in court.
Old settlement disapproved
Of the total settlement, $75.7 million would be distributed in the form of 5.6 million music CDs sent to libraries and schools throughout the nation.
The proposed cash settlement in the case totals $67.3 million, with roughly $44 million to be distributed to the public. The remaining cash will go toward distribution costs and legal fees.
Hornby disapproved a settlement agreement regarding music club sales that would have been just over $1 million in cash and provided 50 percent discounts for club members on one to three new CDs.
Hornby wrote that virtually all the cash would go to attorney fees, leaving little value to club members. He added that music club defendants have not proven that they were part of any pricing conspiracy.
Judi: Tue Jun 17, 03 at 09:27:26 AM (EDT) -
but it is interesting. Come on a visit to Maine to watch loon parents incubate their eggs, and maybe if you are lucky in a few days you might get to see the hatching. Shhhhh. don't scare the babies.
Collector: Mon Jun 16, 03 at 04:44:27 PM (EDT) - Long Lunches, "Resurrected" Bands
heenies@attbi.com
Well howdy y'all. The trouble with a 90 minute lunch is that you can get so bored you even go looking for the old "Yellow Room".
I know, I pop in, make some comment and then never come back for six months. When I see Kyle he lets me know that you're all still around and still occasioanlly even talking about music. I see quite a few musical notes below actually. I'm sure I missed some interesting discussion during the recent international crisis.
Thomas More: I am still a huge Little Feat fan and don't really consider them "resurrected", just "evolved". I recently purchased their three most recent albums from their web site. One is an accoutic live double cd and the others are live stuff from the archives, both double cd's. I also got the reissued "Waiting for Columbus" which is now a double disk with many additional songs.
Now Lynyrd Skynyrd is beginning to border on a tribute band using their own name. I think there's only one or two original members there. I'll probably buy their latest album though. Later Y'all. (How much later, one never know)
