Webmaster notes: Nicole’s listserve: YR Folks have been invited to join

Thomas Moore: Sat Mar 26, 05 at 11:48:17 PM (EST) - Who Goddess into this mess?

RTE says he didn' do it, but I remember that someone posted in the old yellow room that Nicole was a Goddess (as opposed to Web-mistress). I also remember that her response was rather quick.

I figured it must have been RTE, because he was usually in trouble with Nicole for whatever he posted.

My apologies to the toast master.

steph: Sat Mar 26, 05 at 03:13:42 PM (EST) - tiki

glad to hear you in such good spirits! as for the angels...not my hometown anymore. now my options are the rangers and astros. ugh! what's a girl to do???

Tiki: Sat Mar 26, 05 at 12:06:16 AM (EST) - A note from the webbie, as told to me

LOL, I can not say what, durn he will not let me.... but he is working on a few new features for another site... and he may beta it here... we shall see...

Tiki: Fri Mar 25, 05 at 11:49:37 PM (EST) - More odds and sods...

It is amazing that we still have a home... to call home...

Everytime an old friend finds us, well warm and fuzzies stuff happens...

I promise to keep this room alive forever!

peeing my pants thinking that tree might bounce in... ;)

Tiki: Fri Mar 25, 05 at 11:36:25 PM (EST) - I smell a purge!

Howzit Everyone!

Well, I started selling my vintage stuff on eBay... Oh my... I received $127.00 for a 1985 Iron Maiden Tour shirt... Amazing... A lot of work, but what the heck, Up The Irons!

Well Spring has Sprung... Just my 2 cents here, Our Angels are going to kick major butt this year.... I bet steph has a smile... I am prolly going to miss the home opener, but my boycott has ended. I will show up this year. In a few days, I plan on setting a few Tomato plants into big pots. Thank goodness we will be back in the proper time in a few days... Day Light Savings Time should be year round! I can not wait to dance on my plot of land in Alabama in a few months... Yes, I will miss SoCal... But may take a year to pack it up...

So I bounced into a Tower Records a few days ago, "Two Names" gave me a gift card (20 buckaroos) a year ago. My plan was to buy my pookie a CD for her birthday! Happy Birthday Ms. Diane. LOL, as I bounced in... very loud crap (karp) blasting.. I said to a tower worker, I will be surprised if I find something I would buy for myself... OH my, a very complete Venom section... so Thrash is covered... and across the isle, a new CD master of "The Psychdelic Sounds of The 13th Floor Elevators"... I will give a review of this in a few days... Best master I have heard via CD. Reptile would dig it! Derek would dig it... I wonder if (as I said crap.. I left ASAP)

I had a very nice talk w/ poogie tonight!

Howdy Judy!

neen, are you out there????

OK, looks like we need a purge... Bounce in (BTW Happy Easter) Midnight Sunday... And we will purge!!!!

Hecate: Wed Mar 23, 05 at 11:09:03 PM (EST) - Mr. Zimmerman and Mr. Haggard

Their Monday night performance was kindly reviewed in today's L.A. Times Calendar section.

RTE : Wed Mar 23, 05 at 10:09:53 PM (EST) - Bud Dolan @ the Pantages

I went to see the Human Kazoo with ACME on Monday night. A great show with Amos Lee, Merle Haggard & Mr. Dolan. And what a GREAT venue.

RTE: Wed Mar 23, 05 at 10:07:28 PM (EST) - Nicole's List ?

I'm supposing I should keep my distance. I can't stand rejection.

RTE: Wed Mar 23, 05 at 10:05:35 PM (EST) - Damn. Looks like Old Home Week

Nice to see old familiar..., uh...faces? There's one correction that needs to be made. I never called Nicole a Goddess. Don't blame that crapola on me. She was a nice enough person, I guess. I did get in touch with Dave. He's a busy dude. As for radio: What the fug is THAT ? I seem to remember there used to be something called radio, but if it ain't playing an Angels game, it ain't worth listening to. Steph: Would love to see ya babe!

steph: Wed Mar 23, 05 at 03:41:37 PM (EST) - kstf- stef's hits and misses

i'm over listening to the radio. it's either the adult alt station off direct tv, xm or kstf. unfortunately, it's taking me a long time to get everything transferred onto the new computer. the nice thing about the satellite stations is that it introduces me to some artists i've never heard of or they play new stuff from artists i hadn't heard of in a while.
thomas, haven't heard jack fm since i'm no longer in southern cali. i didn't know arrow had gone off the air until i read it here.
srf, i know.. the squeeze thing. and i even took it a step further. a few years ago, i inked myself with a squeeze tattoo. the look on glenn tilbrook's face was pretty classic when he saw it. i even had personalized squeeze plates which read argbrgy. it was pretty neat-o.
tiki, it's good to be here! NP: Dave Matthew Some Devil

SRF: Wed Mar 23, 05 at 12:31:27 PM (EST) - Thomas

BTW, Steph!! Good to see you in here... I always think of Squeeze for some reason when I see your name :>)

Now Thomas, it was last Thursday St Patty's Day not Wednesday when JACK started. A broader Arrow??? Not really , yes they play some songs Arrow played like Thing Called Love-Queen, but they play a lot of Huey Lewis, too.

Indie is a goner in a few months at the most unfortunately. Yes, all the good stations die like FM 101.9 KSCA and KMPC-FM/KEDG The Edge, MARS-FM.

Thomas Moore: Tue Mar 22, 05 at 07:00:20 PM (EST) - Steph!

Long time, indeed! I was thinking about you when I posted about Walter Trout playing last weekend at Perq's.

Have you heard the *new* Jack-FM? It's the old Arrow (FM 93.1), but they're doing a "pirate radio" thing to promote their new format. I've been listening some since the change (last Wed), and it's like Arrow with a much broader playlist.

IMHO, 103.1 "Indie FM" is still better. What do you say, SRF?

Tiki: Tue Mar 22, 05 at 03:37:58 PM (EST) - Hi Steph....

LTNS....

aka Büddaj ;)

steph: Tue Mar 22, 05 at 02:29:27 AM (EST) - it's me

I've finally caught up with the past couple of years. Amazing all the events which have taken place over the past several years. Brings back lots of memories...good and some not so good, but we all grow and take with us the things that make us who we are today.
Thomas, glad you are still with us! and i miss those wahoo tacos.
Dr. Larry and Mrs.Dr., so sorry to hear of the loss of Hawk.
ACME, thoughts are with you and WoACME.
RTE, i may just see you next friday night. keep yer eyes peeled. the tree is currently in Europe. did you ever hear from him? he's a busy one. we still keep in touch every once in a while.
neen-a, a baby? what a blessing! congrats to you.
Peggy, i owe you many phone calls!
Sandy, Judi, SRF, PscoopB, dr.drea, et al... it's still good to read the posts and get tips on anything and everything!
and thanks to you who re-created this board. it's nice to be able to see how friends are doing. keep it going for as long as you can.
Now if only I could find shu-shu, nudge, and derek. oh and has anyone seen industria??? I'm trying to include a photo here, so forgive me if i screw things up.

steph: Mon Mar 21, 05 at 12:51:46 AM (EST) - stfny25@hotmail.com

i had no idea this place even existed until now. i was websurfing and did a search for the yellowroom and after a few searches, found this here. nice to see you all still exist somewhere out there.

here's a bit of an update for you...i'm engaged to a wonderful guy named chris. last oct, i quit disney after 2.5 years as a manager. i'd been there since 96, so i thought a change was in order. chris has family out in texas, so we checked it out and decided it would be something for us to try out. currently, we live in a small town named oatmeal. population is rather small, to say the least! we made the population 27. fortunately, we are only a 45 minute drive from austin. i am currently enjoying being unemployed, although i don't think that will last much longer. i will be visiting family back in california next month and when i return, i'll be looking.
other than that, i still like squeeze and aimee mann. started listening to some country, if you can believe it. ugh, i have found some decent stations out here and am looking forward to seeing some live shows this summer starting with glenn tilbrook in may.
if you don't mind, i'd like to stick around and have a good read. a girl can always use tips on good music, ya know!

steph: Mon Mar 21, 05 at 12:28:57 AM (EST) - no way

thomas more...now that's a familiar name

Hecate: Sun Mar 20, 05 at 08:15:04 PM (EST) - T. Moore

Tsk! It's not nice to fool with a goddess. :)

Thomas Moore: Sun Mar 20, 05 at 02:14:58 PM (EST) - Bad link; bad link!

I just realized that the link I left below, to Nicole's email with the WSJ article regarding "Jack" radio, only works if you're a member of her "World-class Rock" discussion group.

If you're interested, you may be able to read the article on the WSJ Web site, or join the group; it's free (free! free! free!)

Who remembers the "free, free, free!" commercial on KSCA? I've forgotten what they were selling. Maybe Nicole remembers.

Thomas Moore: Sun Mar 20, 05 at 02:10:17 PM (EST) - Has Anyone Seen a "d" around here?

I seem to have dropped one.

Confidential to Hecate: Did you notice which digit the "d" finger is?

Hecate: Sun Mar 20, 05 at 12:43:18 AM (EST) - T. Moore

Especially since you mis-spelled "goddess".

Thomas Moore: Sat Mar 19, 05 at 06:04:20 PM (EST) - New FM format (Jack-FM), as told by The Godess of World-class Rock (Nicole)

Click on this here blue part

If my memory works, I believe RTE hung that title on Nicole, and she fired back at him, in the old Yellow Room. I suppose I'll catch it too, if she's lurking here.

SRF: Fri Mar 18, 05 at 12:37:17 PM (EST) - Thomas

You're thinking of Dennis Constantine who is PD of AAA KINK in Portland, Or. I don't know about his possible affiliation with Philadelphia's WXPN, he did come from KBCO Boulder, FM 101.9's prototype.
The Colorado JACK-FM station I only referred to so for any out-of-towners like 'neen' (haven't seen her lately here) could sample an example of the format. The format actually is Canadian in origin, with the first JACK station in Vancouver I believe. Funny you mention Pirate radio as I was thinking it was Pirate radio meets 95.9 KEZY... They're playimg Def Leppard etc.

Thomas Moore: Fri Mar 18, 05 at 01:03:26 AM (EST) - Hi SRF

Nicole just posted the entire Radio Access article about the change in format, on her yahoo group (see link, above).

Is this "Pirate Radio" all over again?

Originated in Colorado? Does that sound like the same guy who started 3A formats, first in Phila and then Colorado, and then consulted with KSCA management? What was his name?

SRF: Thu Mar 17, 05 at 09:19:07 PM (EST) - Arrow 93.1 RIP (finally)

KLOS has no more competition... cause 93.1 FM knows Jack --- That is Jack-FM

Huey Lewis meets Guns N Roses meets New Order. Yes that's who just played (Sweet Child Of Mine is on right now)

Tune in to 93.1 FM... All the old jocks are GONE!!! No more Joe Benson, Mary Price, Patti Peach, etc. And I believe no more Johnny B (Brandmeier) in the AM... They're running jockless and bra-less (Which reminds me since its St Patty's Day--ever hear of the dyslexic guy who walks into a bra?)

Any out of towners can check out the following website for an example of the "JACK-FM" format with a link to listen to a Colorado station that started about a year ago. The website will also tell you a little about the format

Thomas Moore: Tue Mar 15, 05 at 12:10:45 AM (EST) - Hi Judi too

What is this "snow" you speak of? I remember times like that, when I was touring with Fleetwood Mac.

It was rather balmy today in Southern California. A warm breeze was blowing in from the high deserts, giving coastal areas highs in the 70s. Tonight it will get as cold as 49 degrees F, and there is a hazardous weather outlook for tomorrow due to offshore winds 15 - 20 mph, gusting to 35 mph below the canyons.

We normally don't have much in the news about the weather, except that hillside homes are still sliding downhill due to the record amount of rain we've had lately. Recently a Volkswagen-size boulder came down the hillside and went through a bedroom in one of our local canyons, killing a young woman. Even California weather can be deadly, as mild as it is.

Thomas Moore: Mon Mar 14, 05 at 11:51:45 PM (EST) - Hi Larry, Hi Lo...

Nice tribute to Hawk, Larry. Keep practicing with Photoshop, and you can get a job paying as much as $10/hr.

The link below is to an article in the current issue of Rolling Stone. It's a sad state of affairs for rock on the radio. (link posted on world-class rock by Steve Kleinsasser)

Thomas Moore: Mon Mar 14, 05 at 11:41:04 PM (EST) - email from Nicole!

Hey, ppl, sign up for Nicole's listserve (see yellow link above)

After I posted about Walter Trout on "world-class rock" I got the following reply from Nicole:

So funny, after all these years, Thomas Moore is still
singing the praises of Walter Trout!

Well, welcome to you and all the other Yellow Roomers.
It's nice to see all the old familiar names.

Nicole

Dr. Larry Singer: Mon Mar 14, 05 at 12:42:01 AM (EST) - My Hawk tribute

I've been taking a Photoshop class at IVC. Don't worry, webbie...i'm not looking to muscle in to your field...i'm just doing it for fun/hobby.

Anyhow...you can see my final project here.

It was a labor of love.

Judi: Sat Mar 12, 05 at 06:53:33 PM (EST) - let it snow

It has been snowing for 26 hrs steady and we have 18" of snow from this one storm. There was 3' of snow already on the ground when this storm begain and the snow is level or slightly above the bottom on my first floor windows. All we do lately is shovel, plow, dig out the bird feeders, and go back and do it all again. Lovely heavy wet sticky snow, prefect for snowballs and snowmen, sticking to every branch on every tree. This is the 11th snowstorm this winter. I'm now officially ready for spring.

Tiki: Thu Mar 10, 05 at 09:12:41 PM (EST) - Thomas More

Hey Thomas!!!!!

Hmmmmmmmm, LOL... Bounced right into Nicole’s listserve... Oh well time for me to un-lurk...;)

Thomas More: Wed Mar 9, 05 at 06:05:02 PM (EST) - Oops!

Almost painted the whole room blue! Good thing I put in extra closing tags, huh?

Thomas More: Wed Mar 9, 05 at 06:03:52 PM (EST) - THIS JUST IN!

Friday and Saturday night, March 18 & 19,

Walter Trout & The Radicals

will appear at Perq's
117 Main Street,
Huntington Beach, CA

Phone: 714 960 9996

I'll be there Saturday night! Actually, Friday is always less "wall-to-Walter" than Saturday, when the word gets around, but I'm otherwise engaged on Friday.

Hope to see some of you there. URLarry&Terry? Zoetrope? (give a girl a ride home, and what do you get?), trehaus? Nah, prolly on tour. How 'bout mean-ol' kyle? Yonko? ACME? Collector? HotRodSuz? jackbeni? Peggy? PSB? RTI? Shu-shu? Stef?

Love to see all of you.

Personal to Zoetrope; a lap-dance could be arranged.

akageorge: Sun Mar 6, 05 at 10:52:53 PM (EST) - Penguin abuse

Everyone at work has been intently focused on his/her computer this week. Busy, or whacking penguins? http://n.ethz.ch/student/mkos/pinguin.swf

Tiki: Tue Mar 1, 05 at 11:26:08 PM (EST) - Part 2

In 1983 I made a bad mistake. I could have bought a mini moog, but the new widget was the Oberheim OB-1. So I bought the OB-1...

For years the OB-1 was maybe worth $300 tops (w/ anvil case)... While the mini was worth major $$$$$ - oh well in the days of digital, my used OB-1 is now up there... Analog is now paying off... My patch book is in a Peter Max spiral...

Tiki: Tue Mar 1, 05 at 11:14:42 PM (EST) - Odds and Sods

I am not sure how many folks can be packed into the Grand Warner, my guess is 1,100 folks... I hear 1,400 folks showed up. It was for a good cause, but at my age... So I did not show up. Spent the night working on my eBay listings.

Next week I am putting up my '80s concert Ts up on the block. Pounding my head in the wall thinking about the few dozen I have given to goodwill over the years.

Europe is going crazy over the things... I have seen worn out - faded color stuff going for $30 to $60 USA... Amazing!

So I have decided to let go of a big part of my collection. Ummm, I will keep my Led Zeppelin Object (#66) and the first blimp... My vintage tube stuff (maybe) ... LOL now that I am back in love with the camera... well ...

Tiki: Tue Mar 1, 05 at 10:55:03 PM (EST) - tree

Ummm are you out there buddy ?

Hmmmmm, I will make the room yellow if you bounce in... ;)

Tiki: Tue Mar 1, 05 at 10:35:40 PM (EST) - akageorge

Josh visited us today.... ;)

Oh my... Yes... I do not have a CD player in my 9 year old car... I drive 2 miles to my office in the morning, and 2 miles back in the afternoon.

Yowzer! It looks like Sandy joined... I miss you Sandy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

akageorge: Sun Feb 27, 05 at 11:27:20 PM (EST) - Don't know if this will take, but ...

... as I was driving the other day, I was thinking about what an odd collection of CDs I had in my car. (OK, you folks wouldn't think it odd, but a lot of people would.) And I remembered how we used to do NP and Desert Island Discs. So, how about What's In Your Car?

Willy Porter: Dog Eared Dream

Marc Cohn (self-titled)

Indigo Girls: Nomads-Indians-Saints

Lowen&Navarro: All The Time In The World

Four Shillings Short: Of Labour & Love

akageorge: Sun Feb 27, 05 at 11:13:50 PM (EST) - Re: tree

I have been in contact with our arboreal friend, and he has some big news (besides touring with all kinds of hot musical acts in his capacity as guitar tech). But I'll let him pop in and tell you himself, or at least give me the go-ahead to tell. ***(insert mysterious soundtrack music here)***

Yes, I will be there...

The Warner Grand is 3 1/2 blocks up the street from Graphic Penguin....

SRF: Fri Feb 25, 05 at 01:18:52 PM (EST) - Tiki

I also joined that Yahoo chat room -- Can you believe that "superadiofan" is taken so I joined as 'superradiofan'.

Larry-- get some sleep -- posting at 3 AM ???????

BTW Larry and/or Tiki are you planning to go the Angels home opener on April 5th?? I am a season ticket holder.

Larry Singer: Fri Feb 25, 05 at 03:05:59 AM (EST) - onen final thing about the yellow sticky

bj- I'm on my 15" PB...and even though i'm at the full resolution, I see the first 5 lines of SoCalGal's post and I DON'T see your yellow sticky. It just looks like a regular White Room post that refuses to go away. What i'm suggesting is mabye stick her post under the peguin or to the right of this box.

Hope to see you to tomorrow.

Larry Singer: Fri Feb 25, 05 at 02:57:43 AM (EST) - jam econo

buddaj- hey...are you heading out to the Warner Grand for the premiere tomorrow night??? Also of interest, Spaceland has Thurston Moore with his group Wite Out, with Dos opening...and Dos is at Sacred Grounds the 5th, and Hellride at 14 & below the same night.

The webbie: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 11:56:15 PM (EST) - My 2 cents

Y'all know I am not fond to post here... This place does not need a webmaster to post his yada yada, better to work in the back end... I have found this to be truth. Those guideline thingies so far have seemed to work...

BTW RTE, have we found our tree? He is missed.

A note for our original Webmaster BlueRose:

You bounce in and than bounce out. I try to understand, but I miss you. Bounce in again!

Well, I must leave... I am fixin' the old archives as I post...I always had a problem reading the tiny blinkie type... I am getting old and my eyes are no longer working the way they used to... Cheers....

Webmaster: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 11:32:51 PM (EST) - URLarry

Let me try this again...

but I didn't see your yellow message

My Mistake, I had my note between a >hr< line not a Yellow bar. I was looking at my sticky post and my thoughts were along the same line that I might think something was wrong and double post, just as you were double posting... ;)

So I replaced the sandwich post with a yellow bar after your post. Ergo, you did not see the yellow bar...

On my Pismo PowerMac and it seems to be up front. I only want to sticky tape this post for a week, than it will drop back to it's place... Not to many times we YRs see a post with Nicole in the body... I have to say ... I have had a smile on my face (big as can be) the last day... I might even color this place in beautiful yellow for a few days! ;)

Webmaster: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 11:15:38 PM (EST) - URLarry

In added the yellow after your double post... My mistake.. I put my note between lines...

Tiki: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 11:13:20 PM (EST) - Nicole's Kewl Thing...

Well it looks like 3 of us have bounced over. I must add Nicole made a mention of us (old KSCA Yellow Roomer folks) joining. I think this is a good thing...

Just my 2 cents here....
Way to many click _ click _ clicks to navigate the place. A tad bit to clunky for my taste. I will prolly stick in the lurk mode for a few weeks until I get the lay of the land. BUT the good news is... Nicole bounces in everyday!

Bouncing around the room, it looks like ClydeDodge and Snapper are members...

Well, I think this is a good thing... Not that I want this room to be dropped of the map. That would be a not so good thing....

I am still amazed that our original web ids have been taken on the yahoo side... ergo I went with original_buddaj

Larry Singer: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 08:23:29 PM (EST) - sticky tape

webmeister: yeah sure...yellow...for people with big screens. but I didn't see your yellow message until I scrolled down a bit. I still thought I needed to refresh the screen.

Webmaster: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 06:07:35 PM (EST) - Larry....

You were one step ahead of me... I was thinking the same thing.

Maybe a bit of yellow will do the trick?

Larry Singer: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 06:03:44 PM (EST) - sticky tape

Webbie- mabye instead of stiicky taping, post it to the right of the dialog box. Silly me refreshed cause I didn't see my post first, nor did I read your note cause, well, I thought it was old and for some reason my browser was diisplaying the cached page.

Larry Singer: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 06:00:19 PM (EST) - Mo Indie

This was posted on Hits daily Double Rumour Mill...and it's the company email their General manager sent around: NOT INDIE PROMO: In an open letter to the industry, Indie 103 Los Angeles PD Michael Steele responds to the L.A. Times report, as well as industry rumors, regarding the end of the station's Joint Sales Agreement with Clear Channel. There's talk that both Emmis and Radio One are already in LMA and/or JSA discussions with Entravision. Here is Steele's letter: "Everyone: As you all know, I was on record and confirmed with all of you and our clients that Entravision had a solid Joint Sales Agreement with Clear Channel that would be uninterrupted through September of 2006. What I didn't know, and attorneys apologized for not informing us of sooner, is that new FCC laws are forcing that agreement to end as of March 31st, 2005. What this means for Indie is this: Entravision will take back all sales of Indie airtime on April 1st. Entravision is moving forward to continue operating the station AS IT IS. That means no format change. Nothing will change as far as any of your shows go. Everyone's agreements are still in place. All this means that Indie will no longer have ANY affiliation with Clear Channel. I'm sure you are all going to be hearing everything on the street from "Indie is going Spanish" or "dance music is coming back," etc. NOT TRUE. We are going to continue being the most creative, musically exciting thing on the radio. Don't believe the bullshit on the streets. We've created an amazing entity and I'm proud to move forward on this with all of you!! Thank you for all your hard work. Let's keep flying the Indie flag."

SRF: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 04:07:20 PM (EST) - Larry and Tiki

Re Indie, I guess we'll find out in April. Keep in mind, if it doesn't make $$$ it's not gonna be aired. Up to now, Clear Channel's sales staff has been keeping Indie on the air. That's because as the article stated they package 103.1 in with 102.7 KIIS-FM etc. Being in the industry, I have not heard flattering things about the Entravision sales staff... low morale, turnover, etc. So if they can't sell a truly independent entity, the owner (Entravision) will sell the two signals for a good deal of money or they will put on a satellite feed of Spanish language programming that will cost next to nothing to sustain.

Tiki: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 02:44:48 PM (EST) - Indie...

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Larry Singer: Thu Feb 24, 05 at 02:39:22 PM (EST) - Indie

SRF- I posted your letter to the Indie yahoo group yesterday, and this is what one of the insiders from indie wrote back:

Do not start the rumours. Mr. Steele assured everyone that everything will be status quo and Indie IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE ANY TO ANY FORMAT.

Here is an excerpt from last nights email:

"Entravision is moving forward to continue operating the station AS IT IS. That means no format change. Nothing will change as far as any of your shows go.

I'm sure you are all going to be hearing everything on the street from "Indie is going spanish" or "dance music is coming back" , etc. NOT TRUE. We are going to continue being the most creative, musically exciting thing on the radio. Don't believe the bullshit on the streets. We've created an amazing entity and I'm proud to move forward on this with all of you!! Thank you for all your hard work. Let's keep flying the Indie flag."

As long as Michael is telling the troops all is good... THEN ALL IS GOOD. The rest is just rumours and bullshit. This station grew into something way beyond anything expected. In my opinion, getting away from the CC umbrella could be the best thing for the station. Now it will be truly Indie!

Keep your support and suppress all negative opposition (especially from the KROQ fuckers who want to squash Indie like a bug - since Indie is considered such a threat.) And keep in mind, if Indie is such a threat to KROQ, then Indie has something real that the public wants.

From today's L.A. Times of Los Angeles of Los Angeles County of California (Angels fans will get it)

FCC Rules May Force Indie 103.1 FM to Change Its Tune)

Clear Channel is ending the joint sales agreement with Entravision since it has one more station than is allowed.)

By Geoff Boucher, LA Times, 2.24

The future of Indie 103.1 FM, hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as "America's coolest commercial station," may be in jeopardy because a shift in federal regulations will force Clear Channel Communications Inc. to abandon its business partnership with the station's owner.

Indie 103.1 is owned by Entravision Communications Corp., a Santa Monica-based Spanish-language media company. But it went on the air 14 months ago under a so-called joint sales agreement with Clear Channel, the largest radio station operator in the U.S. and the owner of eight stations in the L.A. market.

Revised Federal Communications Commission regulations redefine joint sales agreements in such a way that Indie 103.1 constitutes Clear Channel's ninth station here, and federal media rules bar any company from owning more than eight.

Roy Laughlin, Clear Channel's regional vice president in Los Angeles, said the company would walk away from the partnership April 1.

"Our lawyers have told us that we have to do this," Laughlin said. "The audience and advertisers will see no disruption, that is my hope."

He called Indie 103.1 "a great success story." With rock star DJs such as Steve Jones, formerly of the Sex Pistols, the station's unusual playlist finds room for the Clash, Franz Ferdinand and Frank Sinatra.

It's unclear whether Entravision will continue the format without the business benefits of the arrangement with Clear Channel, which used its clout to line up advertisers for the station.

Entravision executives declined to comment.

Jeff Pollack, a radio consultant, said the industry chatter was that programming on Indie 103.1 would probably be rejiggered and geared toward one of the L.A. area's myriad ethnic communities. But there has been speculation that the station's bond with a valuable listener niche might make it a natural to move to satellite.

"No matter what, it's going to be hard for the station to continue as it is," Pollack said. "It certainly has its fans and an intriguing music mix, but the ratings have just not been there."

Under the joint sales agreement, Clear Channel's advertising staff sold time on Indie 103.1 at rates lower than those offered by the region's dominant rock powerhouse, KROQ-FM (106.7), which is owned by Infinity Broadcasting Corp.

Clear Channel's salespeople also pitched ad time in bundled deals with its other stations, such as KIIS-FM (102.7) and KBIG-FM (104.3).

Indie 103.1, which simulcasts from Newport Beach and Santa Monica under the tandem call letters KDLD and KDLE, has a relatively weak signal in the Los Angeles market. Still, the venture was seen as an attractive option that might steal some listeners from KROQ.

And although Indie's overall market ranking is modest, in the key 25- to 34-year-old demographic group it outdid KCBS-FM (Arrow 93.1) and KLOS-FM (95.5) during the latest ratings period, fall 2004.

The station has been a hub for L.A. punk and alternative-rock mavens and has prided itself on a ragged and adventurous vibe that seems more like that of a college station than a major market endeavor. Luminaries including Courtney Love and Dave Navarro have been at the microphone.

"People fall in love with the concept of the station," Pollack said, but he added that "in this era that kind of eclectic music mix is competing with offerings on the Internet and the music collections of people with their own iPods."

Hi everyone- I'm just visiting but thought you might like to know that your site was mentioned today on the Yahoo World Class Rock group that was started by Nicole Sandler. Here was the reference: "The Yellow Room isn't completely dead. I found the latest version here: http://www.graphicpenguin.com/forum/index.html . It isn't yellow anymore, but I believe the core group of people is still there." And this was Nicole's response: "I can't believe the yellow room is still kicking! Nicole" For anyone here on the Graphic Penguin BBS, we'd love to have you join our listserv at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/worldclassrock ! SoCalGal

The clock is ticking on their JSA (Joint Sales Agreement) with CCU (Clear Channel) and when it ends sometime this year, Entravision (the owners of Indie 103.1) will pull the plug and put on a different format (probably ethnic) OR they will sell the property to an ethnic broadcaster (think Korean or Asian). Better roll some tape if you want to preserve shows like Jonesy's Jukebox.

Thanks to RTE, I found the new Yellow Room. Actually we have a "date" tonight. I'm taking him to see Bob Dylan at the Pantages. I hope he doesn't get fresh. RTE that is.I think Merle Haggard opens for Bob. Also, Dylan has been nominated for the Noble Prize in Literature for his body of work. A first for a song and dance man.Oh, read Dylan's CHRONICLES.

Thanks for the Yellow Room folks who turned me on to Walter Trout, David Linley, and so many others ...When do we see Walter next?

I've been seeing a lot of great blues players at Lucille's and the Blue Cafe.

Currently I am infatuated with my ongoing love affair with blues of all sorts and listening to blues, folk, and jazz for pre 1920 to contemporary. I have had a huge rush on all the great oldies from the 50's and 60's, and have also revisited the great 60's Summer of Love songs. Oh, and I'm lovin' bluegrass, which has led me to all of the Dawg's Acoustic Disc series and his collaborations with Jerry Garcia. The new Jerry Garcia box set includes a whole CD of great unreleased material. Also, each of the original Garcia CDs (some are out of print) have been remastered and include more unreleased stuff. And oddly enough I have found the musical connection between Django Reinhardt, Stephanne Grappeli, David Grissman, etc and a great new band "The Hot Club of Cowtown" which has been opening for Dylan. And along the way, Ry Cooder, in all his incarnations, has been keeping me company.

Mrs. ACME has a rare and incurable disease called dermatomyositis, and requires monthly IVIG infusions. She has had these for 4 years and we are somewhat in remission. The good news is she is now off Prednisone and Methotrexate which have terrible side affects and have caused damage of their own. ased on our attendance at a number of international conferences held by the Myosistis Association (of which we are active), she is the most dramatically improved of any I have seen with the disease. She is as beautiful as ever, continues to work, has great spirits, and is a woman of strong faith. She also is taking some heavy duty narcotics for pain.

ACME's new email <alistaire@sprintpcs.com>. I don't have any email addresses for YR members, so if you want to drop me an email so I can get you in my address book that would be cool.

RIP

Arthur Miller. Since my background is theatre, DEATH OF A SALESMAN (1948) had a profound effect on me. The play, the playwright, the theme, the debate as to whether this could be a tragedy featuring a comman man, the acting acenes, the design. I designed AFTER THE FALL and produced THE CRUCIBLE. I simply got to the point that I found his work overwritten, and not very exciting theatre or art. But DEATH OF A SALESMAN sticks with me.

Jimmy Smith. The great jazz and blues organist. He virtually created an art form of funky jazz blues.

Dave Van Ronk. Just discovered he has been gone for 2 years or so. A one of a kind. His versions of Bertolt Brecht's songs are great, not to mention his song, performances, and guitar work in the folk, jazz, blues vien. he was one of the original white blues, folk singers. And he and his wife let a young Bob Dylan live with them when for quite a while when Bob first hit New York. Dave turned Dylan on to his record collection and his library of books. Dave Van Ronk also got Dylan his gig opening for Van Ronk at Gerdes Folk City which let to the New York Times review which led to the great John Hammond Sr (against all odds) signing Dylan to Columbia on a hunch that there may be some potential there. Hammond did that, and it is a long lost sign of the creative producer in a corporate structure who invested in, nurtured, and provided an environment for a young singer songwriter to deelop in the folk, blues genre that Hammond loved so much. John Hammond Jr the blues singer (who I saw recently at The Blue Cafe) is Hammond's son, and early pal of Dylan in New York.

And yes, I'll buy your used CDs. :-)

See you soon.

R.I.P. Arthur Miller, playwright.

Saw "The Aviator" recently. Very nearly historically correct, from what I know of the aircraft depicted. No animation; all were radio-controlled flying models, including the 300-pound, electric-powered "Spruce Goose," which had its own barge tender with battery chargers, not seen in the film of course.

The models were photographed in flight from a helicopter, providing realistic close-ups.

Cate Blanchett was good as Katherine Hepburn, one of Howard's main squeezes.

Jude Law as Errol Flynn, who gets into a barroom brawl at The Coconut Grove (fabulously re-created Hollywood landmark).

Kate Beckensale as Ava Gardner, who's best line was "Howard, I'm getting tired of your driving us around Hollywood in this old Buick with no hood."

Gwen Steffani appears briefly as Jean Harlow, star of Howard's first film. My advice? Stick to singing, Gwen.

Alan Alda is brilliant as the crooked senator who tried to nail Howard with war-profiteering crimes at the request of the owner of Pan Am airlines, played by Alec Baldwin. The dialogue for the hearing scenes was taken verbatim from the congressional record. It’s good this type of political shenanigans doesn't occur today (wink, nudge, wink).

Historically, it was an exciting time of great changes in both the motion-picture and aviation industries. Howard made quite an impression on both, with the help of millions from his father's invention (an oil-drilling tool).

If you like classic Hollywood or classic airplanes, go see it!

On a more musical note, go see "Little Feat" next Thursday (17th) at "The Vault," 350 Pine Ave in Long Beach. I'll be there. Click on The Vault to check it out.

Anybody heard of www.yourmusic.com? It's a subscription service -- you pay $5.99 a month and get one cd for that, free shipping; plus can buy more cds at that price. The catch? You have to maintain a "wish list," from which you get the first title each month. If you don't have a list, or use it up, you get charged the $5.99 anyway.

Sounds like a good deal for those of you more organized than I am. (That would be 98% of the population.)

I spent an enjoyable couple of hours last night listening to mp3s from some gravel-voiced singer at garageband.com/artist/Sechman. (OK, I listened to some songs over and over, so that made a couple of hours. While shopping for books.)

KD: Tue Jan 18, 05 at 07:21:16 PM (EST) - La Conchita

Saw the landslide twice this weekend. (On the way up and on the way down.) Only a small section cliff came down, compared to the expanse of cliff there is along 101 in Ventura County. But it only takes a little bit to completely mess up a small community.

It's surreal to look at ... The mound is large and apparently not going anywhere soon, exits--blocked to all but residents--are guarded by the CHP, and the debris is "right there" up close along the freeway. Signs flash "No Stopping", but people slow down to look. Like a volcano, or any other natural occurance that's bigger than our ability to control, it's both amazing and frightening.

Compared to the tsunami damage in Asia, this is a small local story ... But at the same time our governor said he will do everything in his power to help rebuild the community of La Conchita and rebuild it safe, I saw news reports of rebuilding near the coast in Sri Lanka, in violation of laws (not previously enforced) that prohibit building within 200 yards of the shoreline.

Today I feel like pleasing you more than before
Today I know what I want to do but I don't know what for
To be living for you is all I want to do
To be loving you it'll all be there when my dreams come true
Today you'll make me say that I somehow have changed
Today you'll look into my eyes, I'm just not the same
To be anymore than all I am would be a lie
I'm so full of love I could burst apart and start to cry
Today everything you want, I swear it all will come true
Today I realize how much I'm in love with you
With you standing here I could tell the world what it means to love
To go on from here I can't use words, they don't say enought
Please, please listen to me
It's taken so long to come true
And it's all for you
all for you....

But the way that I'm feeling

The clouds are moving away
Away from your days
And into mine

Now it’s raining inside
It’s kind of a shame
And it’s getting to me
A happy man
Why should you want to
Waste all my time
The world is yours
But I am mine

Rain, rain, rain in my tears
Measuring carefully my years
Shame, shame, shame in my mind
See what you've done to my life

See what you’ve done to my life

Howzit Everyone!!!! Bounced down to Florida over the Christmas week. Not to much to report, my mom and family in the Boca area are fine and dandy. After a few days we drove across central Florida to see my in-laws who were visiting my BIL in Tampa. I was amazed on the number of blue tarp roofs I saw on the drive. Tampa seems like an A OKay place. I hope to visit again when it is warm. On our last day, we drove to treasure Island to meet a few local eBay biddies, folks who hang out on my eBay board. Always nice to place a face on an internet buddy.

As we were visiting, I did not get a real feel of the land, no time to check out their radio stations, record stores, etc. I picked up a local scene rag, but did not see any familiar bands.

Sooooo... Anyone watch my USC Trojans stomp on Oklahoma? LMAO thinking about those ABC and ESPN maroons eating crow after the game. Trev and kirk boy... You are idiots. May I suggest watching some Pac-10 football before you open your mouths, next time. Big 12 football... hahaha

I will say the pounding surprised even me. I projected a 34 to 13 game. Well back to back. Thats right folks... USC is Number One. Coach Carroll is not leaving! Fight On!

Saw kyle today. My little Honda needed some fixin'

Well, I will try and post a whole lot of other stuff soon. I am amazed at the price drop of G4 Quicksilvers on eBay. Buying one for a friend. Amazing.

Saw Sandy and HoS recently. They are well. HoS is busy busy busy with work, and Sandy is finishing up Vol. 3 of The Complete History Of Bob.

Bluerose recently learned that if he took that job offer in Kansas City, he would have to change to Redrose. So, he's still looking, but looking only in blue states.

Akageorge placed third in her division of the Iditarod. No wait ... That was her DRIVE TO WORK. Never mind.

Neen, on an unaired episode of The Apprentice, canned Donald Trump. Just canned him ... stone cold Don't-let-the-screen-door-hit-you-on-the-way-out canned. Bankruptcy judges can do that.

Nicole S recently learned to fly and is now learning to strafe.

Tiki, I've just been swamped. Honestly, I don't even like going on line at home, because I only get to in the wee hours and that room is colder than a witch's ... ummm ... woodshed.

Judi: I love reading your ramblings! And congratulations on losing the equivalent of a good-sized golden retriever! That's some accomplishment. I've been toying with the idea of a treadmill or stepper, and that gives me more reason to get one.

Speaking of cold, it's 9 below out right now. I didn't drive home last night; went 2 miles down the road to Kmart, bought myself a down jacket, and came back to my shop to spend the night.

Random acts of kindness department: While I was in Kmart (at 2 a.m.), I ran into a coworker buying her Christmas cards, and told her I was looking for a new quilt for my shop, but they were all too expensive.

A little while later, the store paged me to the customer service desk. I thought I must have dropped my keys or wallet or something. When I got to the front of the store, the clerk handed me a bag and said "Your coworker wanted you to have this."

In it were a Christmas card ... and a big, warm, fuzzy blanket with a white tiger printed on it. So I stayed very warm at the shop, even with the brick walls trying to suck all the heat out of me into the below-zero night.

Merry Christmas, all.
