Well as one of the few souls to be at the Rockpile show at the Hollywood Palladium... Way back when... These days it seems like a thousand or so claim that they were there as well... And I have no clue if the Rockpile stuff is on CD... Well To Me.. Rockpile is a darn good starting point... I also like the "2 little hitlers" period. My 2 cents..

What did you do to get grounded from TV??!! Kinda harsh of Punkin, don't you think?

Try "Labour of Lust".

KD: Sat Mar 15, 03 at 09:28:28 PM (EST) - Rainy day

Having a fun bang-up time here ... Just me, punkin, a fire in the fireplace and a tv being off due to someone being grounded from tv for an extended period ... including rented movies ...

Yup uh-huh ... bang-up time to be sure.

Poogie: Fri Mar 14, 03 at 12:39:02 AM (EST) - iTunes

I love iTunes. I use it to stream Radio Paradise, plus I have a bunch of my cds loaded on there. No problems.

Tiki: Thu Mar 13, 03 at 10:21:09 PM (EST) - iTunes vs Real

I will say this... Radio Paradise (using real) cuts out all of the time... on my Computer.

Part of the problem is the "html" work that my computer runs.

But I have not seen this problem on Diane's CPU with iTunes... Hmmmm The work around would be to set up one of my servers to just run Radio Paradise.. But that seems crazy...

Tiki: Thu Mar 13, 03 at 10:15:34 PM (EST) - iTunes

Diane seems to really like it. I have not found the time to mess around with it. She has it set up to receive this Blues' (via the WWW) radio station...

Judi: Thu Mar 13, 03 at 08:28:42 AM (EST) - KD - that iTunes "Show"

think in terms of a psychadelic light show, colored swirls, morphs, and if you know the secrets you can also control the colors and special effects. Ok so tell me you at least tried it already... I'm waiting...

Sandy: Wed Mar 12, 03 at 12:02:42 AM (EST) - KD

It's all a matter of perspective..... I got the Top 40 basics of rock n roll in the late '60's on a transister radio powered by a 9V battery, with a single earphone. Anything else sounds good now. I'm with Judi, as with many things in life, don't subscribe to anything if you can use your existing technology to get it for free. :)

I'm off tomorrow to the Superior Ct in Santa Ana to perform my Jury Duty. For the first time, I have no valid excuse for not going and taking up chair space for a day.... if it's longer, so be it, but HoS just installed a new CD burner on my PC today and I'm dying to play with it. Duty first........

KD: Tue Mar 11, 03 at 11:34:56 PM (EST) - That was me, TO Judi

Judi: Tue Mar 11, 03 at 11:34:11 PM (EST) - A show ????

... oh yeah ... They are ... sh*tty sounding

But the show sounds really cool.

Judi: Tue Mar 11, 03 at 07:53:55 PM (EST) - KD "Mr Agreeable"

itunes can be used as a cd player, an MP3player, and if you ask it to, can store the entire disk, or selected tracks off any disk. If you are like me, you have many cds with perhaps 1 or 2 favorite cuts, so itunes can save in its database just those songs. You can save every cut off every cd you own if you have anough free space or save NONE at all but still enjoy itunes. Just fire it up, slip in a cd and then after the music begins click on the flower/snowflake shaped button bottom right and watch the "show"! As far as I know it doesn't control other devices but it does have a radio station streaming search aspect to it if you don't want to put in any of your music at all. So no it is not strictly only a database. Don't you dare pay money to program your own fake station, use itunes and make your own free mixes!

KD: Tue Mar 11, 03 at 05:35:12 PM (EST) - Streaming

A friend suggested that I program my own radio programming at live365.com. Anyone here programmed their own station there? I understand it's about $5 month, but I haven't explored the site that extensively yet.

I am in serious 80's mode right now ... New Musik

KD: Tue Mar 11, 03 at 05:30:54 PM (EST) - I agree with Judi

I should get with the program. But ...

Does iTunes store the whole disc? Does it act as a controller for other devices? Is it strictly a database?

I have a few gigs left on my hard drive, but wouldn't I fill that up pretty quick?

Judi: Tue Mar 11, 03 at 07:51:19 AM (EST) - KD

what? you haven't used one of the nicest features that Apple provides for free for music storage? I have never used itunes for mp3's but I have loaded in most of my favorite albums and arranged them in groupings such as "mellow mix" "Jazz" "folk" or just play everything in random order. And now that I have iphoto I arrange selected images into a "slide show" complete with music from the itunes library and I can have a professional looking program to show others. I just did that with 40 photos from the robotics competition put to the music of The Rippingtons. Plus even better, no one showed me how to use any of the applications and I only peeked in the help folder once. Get with the program Sir!

KD: Tue Mar 11, 03 at 02:29:16 AM (EST) - Tiki

I've not tried iTunes yet. I haven't even tried downloading mp3's for legal review prior to purchase ...

Tiki: Mon Mar 10, 03 at 07:42:33 PM (EST) - Sandy

In all fairness to Yusuf Islam, Cat was set up by a journalist.

The question (by the journalist) was slightly misleading (I sometimes wonder what the media gains by this sort of carp) Yusuf's answer was distorted. Cat's heart has always been good. His side of the story is available. His work with children's charities has been documented.

Yes: Peace Train take this country, come take me home again

Sandy: Mon Mar 10, 03 at 10:59:33 AM (EST) - topical songs

Judi, I read in the news that The Artist Formerly Known As Cat Stevens, who's now an Islamic teacher named Yusuf Islam, is re-releasing "Peace Train" and has re-worked "Lady D'Arbanville" with a new title: "Angel of War" as a protest statement. After his goofiness over Salman Rushdie (he supported a fatwah on him for writing "The Satanic Verses") he lost a lot of fans, I hope his heart is in a better place now.

Peace Train
by Cat Stevens
Now I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun
Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come
Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again
Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, something good has begun
Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller
Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train
Get your bags together, go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you
Now come and join the living, it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer, soon it will all be true
Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss
Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

Judi: Mon Mar 10, 03 at 08:00:49 AM (EST) - song for today

as the drumbeats of war are sounding louder each day, perhaps we can sing this quietly to ourselves?

sung to "Finlandia"(you know that tune!)

This is my song, O God of all the nations
a song of peace for lands afar and mine
This is my home, the country where my heart is
here are my hopes, my dreams, my holy shrine
but other hearts in other lands are beating
with hopes and dreams as true and high as mine

My country's skies are bluer than the ocean
and sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine
but other lands have sunlight too, and clover
and skies are everywhere as blue as mine
O hear my song, though God of all the nations
a song of peace for their land and for mine

jakbeni: Sun Mar 9, 03 at 08:12:22 PM (EST) - John McEuen and his string wizards@McCabes

Great show. John played mostly banjo, but also played a few other string instruments including guitar and mandolin. He was accompanied through most the show by 4 other guys playing string instruments including two of his sons. Made mention on how he grew up behind the Orange Curtain and how the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band made things happen for him. How, when he was younger, how he dreamed of meeting Earl Scruggs but later got to record with Earl in the studio. His boys were very good also. His younger son sung vocals to several of his songs.

Good to see you got my message. Hope your dad gets better fropm whatever is ailing him. Health problems always suck. I'm on the eve of taking my car into the body shop for a few days and it is becoming painfully obvious that I need to make and emergency dentist appointment. so I guess I'll have to see about getting a rental since I need a car (or at least a cab) to get to my dentist. I notice last week that one of my top left mollars has become temperature sensitive. It is now beginning to throb. It even wook me up in the middle of the night last night. Ouch! Never fails, it happens on Sunday, everyone's day off. Oh well. Be glad when this episode is behind me.

Judi: Sun Mar 9, 03 at 06:46:14 PM (EST) - music? what's that?

Sandy, I have to hang my head in shame, I've been so busy I hardly have time to listen to the radio! But if I had to put my finger on any new music I might have discovered it would be "October Project". They only made 2 albums, I have a copy of one. I'm crazy about them and found out the lead singer, Mary Fahl did one of the 2 songs in the new movie "Gods and Generals". I love her voice and am glad to see someone else realizes that she is fantastic too. I keep that cd in the car. Other than that is is re-listen to all the old stuff. No time to follow music trends right now.

Sandy: Sun Mar 9, 03 at 01:54:56 PM (EST) - Judi

I think of Roger's yearly robotics projects every time I see those "junkyard" shows on tv - a good engineer nerd is not to be sneezed at - I can't imagine having the know-how to build anything that actually works!

What's up with you lately on the musical front? I've been rediscovering the Cowboy Junkies - I hadn't paid any attention to them since the "Trinity Session" album - they appeal to me more now than they did 15 years ago. (yep, it's been that long...)

Judi: Sun Mar 9, 03 at 01:06:04 PM (EST) - we are #13

well out of 44 teams ranking 13 was darn good for the robotics team from Maine. And another team from Maine won. FIRST robotics rankings

So that is what I have been up to lately, Rodger I'll get back to you after the dust here settles, and I can keep my dad out of the hospital for more than a day, and I can get my mother in law to go see a doctor. I need a vacation! Now I am loving my iBook because I can make a digital slide show of the photos I took at the competition, and add music and the kids can present it at school on Monday since our local news chose not to cover this international engineering competition (probably too nerdy for tv or newspaper).

Poogie: Sat Mar 8, 03 at 11:54:00 PM (EST) - Tiki

Yep, the 9.21 and 9.21 upgrades improve compatability for use with OS X.

I was very bad today. After thinking about amps yesterday, I went out and bought my Parasound Halo. Been keeping an eye on it since it came out this summer. Yes, I am a fool, but gosh darnit, I'm a happy fool! And it looks real purty in the rack. :-) Now I must get rid of that nasty ground loop hum.

Tiki: Sat Mar 8, 03 at 09:27:15 PM (EST) - KD

I had thought that the OS 9.2.2 upgrade was only for Jag to run 9 better in the classic mode (Poogie?) when your CPU was booted in X (Jag)..

Hmmm, are you able to use itunes?

Poogie: Fri Mar 7, 03 at 11:30:43 PM (EST) - Yes, yours is bigger than mine!

But I don't think I have the money or room for a big honkin' screen and a front projection system. Would be nice though. Gonna have Movie Night at the GP Palace?

Bryston has both RCA and XLR. Parasound Halo has both RCA and XLR. I believe their HCA series also has both. Not sure about Anthem, though. I've been looking at a Bryston. SWEET!

Tiki: Fri Mar 7, 03 at 11:18:28 PM (EST) - It is not a toy - it is not a toy

Yowzer!

Tiki: Fri Mar 7, 03 at 11:16:49 PM (EST) - Poogie

Do they have XLR inputs? In a perfect World I would order up a few Crown Power Plates (LOL)... Umm, I also plan on putting my very old OB1 into the mix... So I need ballanced as well as non as a factor... Like I said... I am going for over kill... 175 W at 8 ohmes - per channel, LOL, I can bridge the amp (say sub woof - at arounnd 700 W - left the specs at the office)

Poogie, You must see this projector (1500 lumens)... (LOL - mine is bigger than yours). Waiting for the qoute for my screen.. Must note.. this is not a toy, this is an must needed thing for my office... (ummm the screen will be in video mode - something like 86" by 116") Around 500 bucks... After I set up the audio, you bring the popcorn and a DVD.... And we are going to rock...

Poogie: Fri Mar 7, 03 at 10:41:19 PM (EST) - Amp

Hey Tiki, Carvin is ok, but you might want to look at Parasound. Great value for the money and built like a tank. Anthem MCA series also a good buy. You could also pick up a used Bryston on audiogon.com. Audigon is a good place to find a used amp. Bryston fantastic build quality and sound, plus a transferrable 20 year warranty. If you have an extra 20 grand stashed away, there's always Krell or Levinson!

Tiki: Fri Mar 7, 03 at 09:56:59 PM (EST) - KD

Before I forget... You MUST (well... it would be nifty if you would) visit the new office and get the Grand Tour!

Tiki: Fri Mar 7, 03 at 09:44:06 PM (EST) - RTE

I am looking at a Carvin HT760M Power Amp that I may be able to get at a very good price. I have looked at the specs and they seem to add up well. 2 years old, rarly used (so the seller states).

Maybe you (or Robert, anyone else) might be able to answer a question for me).

First of all I am prolly going to have to put a Pre Amp between it and the output. I am settig up a state-of-the-art audio/cpu/vidieo --> Projection (my spanking new fantastic Epson 71C) ---> Multi Media Presentation System for my Office Conf. Room. Yes I know this is over kill... but hey... if it works for Great White.... (sorry bad joke)... Ayway...

I know that way back when Carvin made a durn good product... This is more or less a monitor Amp. Have you ever run into this Amp? Is Carvin still a good company? Would you buy this if you needed such an Amp note... Both Channels have EQ. Thanks...

I just upgraded to o/s 9.2.2 and it's been kindof tricky to get everything working again. Especially upgrading to Netscape 7. (7.2 actually.) My Wall Street seems to be handling it ok.

So far so good, except for the newest version of IM. I know IM comes with Netscape, but I want to keep it as a stand alone app.

It'll be interesting to see how the Halos fare against those Bean-Towners (Judi are U a fan?). Edison Field games in April are pretty much SOLD OUT. A bief look at the schedule showws that's the only trip to Anaheim for Boston. The Angels make two trips this year to Boston. They play the Yankees two series at home this season and travel once to Yankee Stadium, a reversal of last year. Ah yes that unbalanced schedule. Anyways, I put my concert $$$ for some Angels games including Opening Night Sect T206, the next two with Texas, and a bunch of other games. SoCal music radio stations still suck.

Would like to arrange to stop by your place in Maine for a few days should I go. Unfortunately, I lost your E-mail addy when my hard drive crashed last year. Can you write me?

jakbeni: Thu Mar 6, 03 at 11:45:50 PM (EST) - Tiki

Ouch! Hope you recover the damages from the accident from somewhere. A couple of weeks ago, I pulled out of a parking space at the HMO I go to and, after I got out of my spot, seen the car that was parked in back of me pulling out of her spot. Tooted my horn, but she ignored my warning and did not stop until she plowed into my drivers door. No injuries and damage to my door was mostly in the form of a big dent (the door still worked though). The cool thing is my insurance company believed my argument over that provided by the other insurance company and waved my deductable, so that was cool. But it is a minor pain getting it repaired as it always is. Brang it there yesturday and he primed the damaged area. Needed the car today and tomorrow, so I have to go back there on Monday (when I can leave it there for a few days) to do the point job. But, could have been much worse.

Too late, it's past 9:30 here - and I'd burn a quarter tank just getting there and back, but it is an innovative advertising ploy! We're currently buying regular unleaded for $2.05/gal in Orange Co. That's got to be killing people with long commutes.

Judi: Mon Mar 3, 03 at 06:33:20 PM (EST) - wiping up spilled blood

Hi Kyle, glad you stopped by and shed some light on the situation. Interesting to hear about the vast diferences in gasoline prices.

Now I am all about the "forgive and forget" method, let bygones be bygones, water under the bridge et all. At some point in all our lives we do something stupid and live to regret it for a while. But life is short, if we sat around with that chip on our shoulder forever we all would miss out. I'm all for wiping the slate clean, granting a global pardon for all sins committed. And yes with an international mess looming we all have lots on our minds but also keeping in touch with friends is just as important. If I hear of an earthquake in Southern California I always worry about you guys, even tiny earthquakes! My life revolves around the weather and my family and maintaining friendships. My life is simple and uncomplicated at the moment. I wish I could go to so many live concerts like Rodger but if I get to 3 live events a year I've done well. I haven't seen or rented a movie since before Christmas! I haven't much to offer here in that regard but I do my best with what I know. So keep in touch! Anyone else jump in. Even lurkers, speak up!

judi- don't know about lp gas but to feed the pumpkin these days is costing me $2.23 a gallon for super. regular is at $2.01. of the 5 cars in my arsenal, only one runs on regular. asa far as lack of attendance on this room, my feeling is that a lot of "blood" was spilled in the yellow room, some of it not very nice at all, myself being one of the perps. so maybe the header says it all, maybe it's just being politically correct so as not to rouse feathers, maybe peoples just have alot on their plates especially in lew of what's going on in todays world. i'm here however because i always liked the dialogue, the peoples and that we're a vast bunch. and with that said, im a ducking..

Tiki: I need job specifics, I have no idea what you mean by "list mom". And can RTE be a "list dad"?

On to another topic for the week. Gas prices. Gulf gas station had gas today for regular grade at $1.59/ and top prices at Exxon was $1.66/, mid grade $1.75/, top grade $1.83/. I heard some of you in CA are paying over $2.00/gal? And LP gas prices in Maine to heat your home, (and boy do we need heat as it was 6F and windy as all heck this morning), is running $145.9 West coast comparisons?
