Jones: Sat Jan 17, 04 at 01:58:38 AM (EST) - phone home

103.1 doesn't seem to be making it's way into Burbank. I might as well be listening for messages from space. I'll just read the playlists y'all post and play the songs in my head for the rest of the day. :( Nice call on the Mats, Tiki!

Tiki: Sat Jan 17, 04 at 12:52:00 AM (EST) - 103.1 - The Replacements

That was me! I dialed (866) 487-8103 and let them know that I could do less with the rap, and maybe they might play a Replacements tune... 10 minutes later.. "On the Bus"...

Call them up! Please ask them not to play the rap!

Tiki: Fri Jan 16, 04 at 10:39:02 PM (EST) - 103.1

A-ha! "Channel 103.1 FM" - I was wondering why it was still the number 1 FM preset on my car radio... LOL, shows how much I was tuning into the FM side the last few years.

Hi RadioJones

Forgot to thank you for The Secret Code!

SRF: Fri Jan 16, 04 at 01:12:28 PM (EST) - Judi,Kyle, Poogie, and Webbie

Judi- I agree with you, given your computer speaker situation, I guess I would also listen to a live radio station. Re: the weather, whether or not here in SoCal, it's not much news, but of course in New England, it must be important to know about impending winter storms and deep freezes. I empathize having lived more than half my life in Jersey where although not New England-type severe cold weather, every now and then it would dip to between 10 degrees and 5 below. There are NO DJs currently on 103.1 but I believe most of us here care about the music played more than DJ patter or traffic reports, or weather. (I don't remember hearing any RADIO DJs whining about our miserable weather [miserable defined as below 55 and raining-yuk yuk], but they talk a lot about "bad weather" on the TV newscasts and Lord help us if a storm from the NorthWest is approaching because they play it up so much on TV news its ridiculous to me. California natives can be such babies haha) And you know that most LA area radio music stations are trash except now for 103.1 FM.

Poogie-I have listened to 'XPN at times and have listened to them live on my visits to my sister in Philadelphia and my other sister who lives in the Trenton area, close enough to receive WXPN. I like DJs Helen Leicht and David Dye who both go back a long way in Philadelphia radio. Problem with their Internet stream is (last time I checked) it's still too low of a bit rate compared to higher bit rates like 64 kb/sec and 128 kb/sec. These days you can find a lot of Internet only stations that stream at good speed (try live365) but I like WDST Woodstock, NY a lot because it seems like you're listening to a real radio station that is live and local (because they are live and you can pretend they're local).

Kyle- you got the call letters correct- KDLD licensed in Santa Monica and KDLE licensed in Newport Beach. Remember, its the same transmitting set up and simulcast as when it was "Channel 103.1 FM" with Nicole Sandler. It is owned by Entravision a predominantly Spanish language broadcasting company which operates many Stations across the country, with maybe two stations in English. They took over when Channel 103.1 left the airwaves to go to their short-lived Internet radio only experience. So they were Spanish from August 2000 to January 2003. A year ago, they went English language dance-leaning music and after XMAS went to the new alternative altrock format.

Judi: Fri Jan 16, 04 at 07:19:03 AM (EST) - SRF

Ok I'll give you 103.1 station a listen and also the woodstock one.But I need to warn you that I do not have speakers for my computer, all sound comes out of one small area at the front of my G4 box. The old monitor had built in stereo speakers into the monitor and also a headphone jack. But that monitor burned out and I bought a new one that has no speaker function. I get a tinny hollow sound from the computer speaker itself. One of these days I'll get some speakers for this machine but when I have a great local station playing AAA music all day right in the same room and also giving me up to the minute LOCAL news and WEATHER it is hard to consider some station far far away. And 5 days of sub zero weather has me a bit chilled. I'm hoping today we get a heat wave and bring the temps to at least zero. Right now it is -9F. Those local weather reports are important. I don't want to hear some DJ from sunny California complaining about temps in the 60's and whining about it being cold at night..

kyle: Fri Jan 16, 04 at 02:06:59 AM (EST) - stuff

seeings how this radio junkienever has time to even try finding all the internet stations- since i told ya'all about 103.1- a couple of observations- 103.1 is listed in the spanish radio spectrum of life- but is advertised as a station out the republik of santa monica as something like kdld and kdle out of newport beach. and i know i'm wrong on those call leters. srf- you say exactly what i feel about this place sometimes. i remeber judi some months ago saying that it would be nice if we said something of substance, but sometimes with work, trying to make some money, and just trying to survive, this place takes second.. but......i love what i am hearing on 103.1, except for the nirvana and that one really wierd way too happy song...hey, it's even got me to turn off rush & shawn hannity!!!;-}

SRF: Thu Jan 15, 04 at 07:03:46 PM (EST) - Plug for another kewl radio station

Thanks Tiki and Poogie for the responses to my post below. Another station similar to WCLZ is WDST-"Radio Woodstock" which UNLIKE WCLZ is available right now online (see below for URL). If you miss FM 101.9 KSCA and Channel 103.1 FM, you'll enjoy listening to WDST (which I have on frequently in the office). They "broadcast" with 128 K bits/second which is great FM quality! You don't even mind the commercials! I called them on a trivia contest and they mailed me two T-shirts - How cool is that?? Check them out.. Most here (Rodger/jak, Thomas, akageorge, Tiki, Judi, et al, are you listening?) will like them. This is what say on their website-

WDST - tagged "the coolest radio station on the planet" by its listeners and the music industry - broadcasts WORLD CLASS ROCK from the legendary Utopia Studios in Woodstock, New York.

WDST has been programming WORLD CLASS ROCK since 1980 - an eclectic mix of music from the late 1960's to the best new music today.

WDST seeks and promotes the development of emerging artists while it presents established talent whose music continues to be relevant. Moby, REM, Jewel, Fiona Apple, Phish, and Dave Matthews all enjoyed initial air play on WDST and have performed at various WDST events.

WDST is proud to sponsor more cultural and musical events than any other media organization in the Hudson Valley.

WDST has a strong commitment to public service and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars supporting various causes.

WDST is the home of World Class on-air personalities who provide listeners with knowledgeable and interesting programming that is the “extra dimension” that connects the station to its growing audience.

WDST programming includes weekly specialty shows (Blues, Classical, Talk), exclusive live concert broadcasts, special in-studio performances, and remote broadcasts.

WDST is available on 100.1, serving the 5 counties of Ulster, Dutchess, Columbia, Greene, and Orange, 106.3 (Poughkeepsie) and 102.3 (Newburgh).

WDST can be heard Worldwide on the internet at wdst.com and radiowoodstock.com.

WDST is proud to be among the few radio stations that have been selected for listening on-line via AOL’s Radio Player.

PEACE, LOVE and ROCK & ROLL!

Here's the URL for their Top 100 of 2003 to give you an idea of what they play

Tiki: Fri Jan 9, 04 at 01:00:12 PM (EST) - jakbeni

Happy Birthday!

jakbeni: Fri Jan 9, 04 at 02:48:26 AM (EST) - Thomas

Currenlty don't have anything planned for Saturday, so I might join you. Friday night, planning on going to Rusty's Surf Ranch to see Mother Jones Band perform. According to their website, they are going to be on from 10-11 PM. It wouldn't surprise me if these guys ever make it big time since they are HOT!!! Although their music is original, their style is similar to the Grateful Dead and their musicianship is superb. I always enjoy seeing them. And thy are use to seeing me in the audience since many of the band members know me on a first name basis. This makes it more fun to see an artist perform.

Thomas More: Thu Jan 8, 04 at 11:42:34 PM (EST) - Happy Birthday, jakbeni!

Also Elvis and Ziggy Stardust. That's the only personna that I ever saw David Bowie do, live. Long time ago in the Long Beach Arena.

Dr. Larry, and Tea; This Saturday night (Jan 10) will be the first time in more than a year that Walter Trout Band will appear at Perq's in Huntington Beach. You two should be there, and ride around the parking lot to renew your vows.

Did everyone see the article in today's Orange County Register? Perq's won their 6-year lawsuit against the City of HB Redevelopment Agency. They were awarded 1.5 million, and the city has declined to appeal.

Hmmm. Maybe now that can afford the nice sound system that I designed for the room.

I'll be at the front table about 7:00 PM, since they don't have reservations. It gets "wall-to-Walter" when he plays at Perq's, so if you don't get there before 8:00 PM you may not get in. By 9:00 o'clock it will be jam full. As in squeezed.

Gee, I wonder if Ms. T will be coming. Zoetrope could use another lap dance.

Directions to Perq's:

Take Pacific Coast Hwy to Main Street (across from the pier, downtown Huntington Beach). Park anywhere, but pay the meter 'cause they give out $35 parking tkts, 24/7. Perq's is at 117 Main Street, in the first block from the beach. Right across the street from Wahoo's fish taco joint. I'll be there about 6:30 PM getting a couple of tacos to go.

Mrs Dr. (aka tea): Thu Jan 8, 04 at 03:09:37 PM (EST) - "Operate" on a sliding scale?

With YOUR nimble fingers? Yikes! Oh wait...you mean you're willing to negotiate a fee on a sliding scale. Jeeze, for a minute I thought that you were back to wanting to be a surgeon. Whew. Sorry. My mistake. Bowing out. (Happy Birthday, Elvis)

jakbeni: Thu Jan 8, 04 at 01:46:30 AM (EST) - Happy B'day David and Elvis

January 8 is the B'day for David Bowie and Elvis Presley. I remember this since Friday is my B'day. Geez, another year older. Mick Jagger was right. What a drag it is getting old.
